George Raymond Cherry also known as Ray or PaPa Ray, 78, of East Bernard, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026.
Ray was born July 25,1947 in Robstown Texas and graduated from Bishop High school in 1965.
He was raised with strong values of hard work, service, and family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to others. He was a life member of VFW Post#2438 In Bay City Texas. Following his military service, Ray built a long and dedicated career with Zachry Group/Dow Chemical, where he worked until his retirement.
Ray was a man who placed family above all else. He found joy in dancing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing, camping, and watching sports. He loved the Astros and the Texans.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Dianne Cherry; stepdaughter, Dana Reznicek and husband Johnnie Reznicek; stepson, Mike Lockhart and wife Amber Lockhart. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Durran Chavez; Yatzari; Kaylum and Kathryn Brzozowski; Dydry Lockhart; Caitlin and Logan Mason; Chelsey Reznicek and Kyle; Allen and Libby Lockhart. He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren: Logan, Kamden, Everily, Kindsley, Paisley, Korbyn, Jase, Leilani, and Adeline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria George Peterson and Austin Eugene Cherry; sister, Gloria Jean Cherry Wallace; brother, Charles L. Cherry; sister, Doris Cherry; and stepson, Jason Lockhart.
Ray will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and deep love for his family. His presence, guidance, and steady spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
