June Dodson, 95 years old, of Bishop, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. She was born on December 29th, 1928, in Santa Rosa, Texas to Abbie and Janie Moore Ledbetter.  She was raised by Abbie and Myrtle Ledbetter due to the passing of her mother when she was two years of age.  She grew up in Santa Rosa, Texas and attended Santa Rosa Public School and Mission High School. She frequently reminisced about family time spent at her grandparent’s homeplace in Summerfield, Louisiana during her childhood years.

She married the love of her life, Harlen Dodson, on September 11th, 1948, in Santa Rosa, Texas and celebrated 73 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2021.  She graduated from Pan American College in Edinburg, Texas in 1960 with a Bachelor’s Degree, majoring in Elementary Education with a Minor in English.  June was a dedicated wife and mother of two boys, Jimmy and Larry Dodson.  In 1962, the family moved to Driscoll, Texas, and she began teaching at the nearby London and Driscoll Schools.  Ultimately, she found her home in Bishop, Texas where she dedicated the majority of her twenty-seven-year teaching career at Bishop Elementary School.

She was an avid member of the Baptist Church wherever she lived. She was often found at the church on Sunday mornings playing the piano or organ and loved to play music for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or whomever would listen and sing along.  She was always up for a competitive game of 42 dominoes.  She was a lover of the outdoors and took pleasure in the beauty of nature, retiring in the Texas Hill Country.

June is survived by her sister Carolyn Ledbetter Williams; son Jimmy Dodson; daughter-in-law Debbie Dodson; four grandchildren Mindy Dodson, Buck Dodson, Kristi (Randy) Kaiser, and Payton (Jami) Dodson; six great-grandchildren Benjamin, Brennan, Cullen, Kendall, Courtni, and Harlen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harlen Dodson; sister Doris “DoDo” Ledbetter Kelly; son Larry Dodson; and great-grandchildren Madison Kaiser and Baby Boy Dodson.

A visitation and lunch will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bishop, Texas on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at 11:00AM followed by a Funeral Service at the First Baptist Church of Bishop, Texas at 1:00PM.  Burial will follow at Restland Memory Park, Bishop, Texas.
