Bishop - Patricia Lynn (Patty) Briggs Estes of Bishop left this
earthly life peacefully on Saturday May 4, 2024 at the age of 73 years
and 8 months with her loving family at her side. She bravely battled a
2-year onslaught of dreaded cancer.
Patty was born September 2, 1950 in Conroe, Texas to Jimmy Lee and Beverly Kelley Briggs. She resided in Katy, Texas
at the Humble camp until she was 10 Then her family moved to
Kingsville, Texas where she graduated from HM King High School in 1969.
Patty earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with teacher
certification in 1973 from Texas A&I University in Kingsville.
"A&I 'Til I Die" is where she met the love of her life, Tom Estes in
the A&I choir. They were married June 23, 1973. While at Texas
A&I Patty toured with A&I University Singers to Europe with the
USO to entertain the troops.
Patty taught elementary school
classes at Ricardo TX, the King Ranch School, and Kindergarten at
Yorktown Baptist Christian Academy in Corpus Christi. Patty also taught
music and piano at home. Patty and Tom began a traveling gospel music
ministry in 1978. Justin was born in 1979, which created a singing trio.
The ministry continued full-time until 1998. Patty home-schooled Justin
in the 80s when home-schooling was not very popular. Their only home,
on 6 wheels was a 40' fifth-wheel travel trailer. Justin passed his GED
with flying colors in 1998. For the next 20 years Patty worked as
Payroll/HR manager for Kennedy Wire Rope & Sling Co. in Corpus
Christi/San Antonio/Houston, where her husband was also employed. In
addition she has been lead pianist for Travis Baptist Church Corpus
Christi for the past 17 years.
Patty is preceded in death by her
father Jimmy Lee Briggs. She is survived by her husband Tom Estes of
Bishop, son Justin Dean Estes (Nikki) of Corpus Christi, mother Beverly
Smith of Corpus Christi, sister Karol Kay Bone (Terry) of Katy, brothers
Robert Briggs (Susan) of Katy and Kelley (Mikki) Briggs of Eagle River, Alaska,
aunt Barbara Walshak (Keith) of Corpus Christi, grandsons Corbin Dean
Estes and Benjamin Michael Estes of Corpus Christi to whom she was
"Nonnie", numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
A
Celebration of Life will commence at 11:00 am Saturday, May 11 at
Travis Baptist Church, 5802 Weber Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78413.
Fellowship and meal with family and friends will be in the fellowship
hall. You are all invited. In lieu of flowers, please consider
contributing to Travis Baptist Church or MD Anderson Cancer Center in
memory of Patty. The family would like to thank MD Anderson, Brookdale
Trinity Towers, New Century Hospice and the hundreds of friends who have
loved Patty and supported us. To God be the Glory, amen!
