Our beloved father Jesse L. Alvarez, Jr., 77, of Bishop, Texas passed away peacefully after a sudden illness surrounded by loved ones at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on March 3, 2024.

Born in Robstown, Tx, on September 28, 1946, to Jesus & Concepcion Alvarez, he was well-loved and known throughout the community. Jesse worked for the maintenance dept of the Texas A&I University system for 30 years. He had a passion for helping others, and used his voice to advocate for projects that would highlight the heroic acts of veterans. He admired the sacrifice that others had made for this country. Jesse was a faithful son of the Most Highest, and lived his life with such grace, strength, and love. He enjoyed spending time with family, going on road trips, and living it up with his grandkids and great- grand kids. He had a great sense of humor and a deep love for all his siblings, nieces, nephews, and always put others first.

He is preceded in death by his wife Alicia R. Alvarez; granddaughter, Mariah Lynette Alvarez; parents, Jesus and Concepcion Alvarez; brothers, Amaro, Edmundo, and Jose Alvarez; sisters, Maria Solis and Jesusa Alvarez; in-laws, Jose and Cora Ramirez; and son- in-law, Matthew A. Sanchez, Sr.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his children, Laura A. Martinez (Tomas), Michael J. Alvarez, and Corina Alvarez; grandchildren, Emilee Rivera, Ryan Rivera, Dominic Martinez, Thomas Martinez, Michelle L. Aguilar (Jay), Steven Colunga, Marissa M. Alvarez, Mia Alvarez, Allicea D. Salinas (Jorge), Matthew A. Sanchez, Ernest Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Hazel Colunga, Jorge Salinas, Jr., and one on the way; sisters, Linda Solis and JoAnn Samora (Albert); brother, Romeo Alvarez; brother-in law, Ramiro Ramirez (Donna); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church, Bishop, TX. A rite of committal and interment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Bishop, TX.

[This was the husband of Alicia Ramirez Alvarez, BH '67, who passed away and was buried April, 2022]
