ALVAREZ ALICIA 67.jpg
Alicia R. “Licha” Alvarez was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, Apr. 15, 2022, at the age of 73, surrounded by family. She was born on Oct. 27, 1948, in Idalou, TX to Jose “Pepe” and Cora Ramirez.  Alicia graduated from Bishop High School in 1967; in 1978 earned her bachelor’s degree in Education and later received her master’s degree in Reading at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX.  Being an educator was one of the greatest joys of her life and enriching young minds was something she truly enjoyed.

Alicia was well known throughout the Bishop Community, not only as an educator and a hard worker, but as a giver of invaluable service to those who knew her.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and treasure at the Bishop Senior Center.  She was a part-time Bishop Police dispatcher for 18 years and a Special Education teacher at Lillian E. Luehrs Junior High School for 30 years.  She enjoyed lottery scratch-off tickets, playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Spurs fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose “Pepe” and Cora Ramirez; and son-in-law, Matthew Sanchez.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Jesse L. Alvarez, Jr.; son, Michael J. Alvarez; daughters, Laura (Tomas) Martinez and Corina Alvarez of San Antonio, TX; siblings, brother, Dr. Ramiro (Donna) Ramirez of San Antonio, TX.; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and another on the way; 1 niece; and 2 nephews.

Interment was at St. James Cemetery in Bishop, TX, Saturday April 23.
