TABB JOHN C.jpg
John Calvin Tabb passed peacefully at his home in Kingsville, Texas on November 18, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on September 19, 1951, John lived a life full of laughter, music, and deep devotion to family.

As a young man, John excelled on the baseball field and became proficient in Judo—skills he proudly shared with his nephews during impromptu “lessons.” His passions were many, but he especially loved playing music, singing, and riding his motorcycle. With a voice reminiscent of Charley Pride, John often entertained family and friends, bringing joy through song and humor. He was rarely without a joke and delighted in making others laugh.

Throughout his life, John wore many hats—from restaurant manager to long-haul trucker. Yet, when his mother fell ill, he set aside his career to care for her, and later did the same for his father. Together, John and his dad became inseparable companions, sharing coffee, stories, and the open road.

John’s greatest joy came from reconnecting with his son, Rob. That bond, rekindled after many years, became the brightest part of his life.

Known affectionately as Pop, John, Uncle John, or JT, he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his son Robert Garrett, grandson Brody Garrett, siblings Beverly, Cassandra, Connie, Rodney, and bonus sister Evelyn. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog Bella.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Kathryn Tabb, his brother Robert Tabb and brother-in-law Gary Holmes.

A visitation will be held on November 25, 2025 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM; with a celebration of life beginning at 2:00 PM. Services will conclude that afternoon.

John’s spirit will live on in the stories shared, the songs remembered, and the laughter he inspired.
