Bloomfield Hills Schools Community:
Prior to the start of the school year, BHS was unsure if we would be able to offer full transportation services to all students due to the national bus driver shortage. We received many requests from our community members wanting a similar level of service as we had in previous years, and we began the 2023-24 school year proud to be able to offer transportation services for our families.
Our transportation department has done an excellent job in building our new routes based on new buildings and new configurations and have been tirelessly trying to recruit, train, and retain bus drivers. At the building level, our administrators have worked hard to create and implement new bus loading systems and general dismissal procedures, while in new settings, with new levels of students, and new parking lot configurations.
We want to recognize that while our team has been working tirelessly this week to provide safe and reliable transportation services to our community, there have been delays and hiccups that have impacted our students, staff, and families.
Please know that as students and staff learn their new routines, the loading of buses will get better, as will the timing of the 3-tier runs. Though this week has been more challenging than years past, delays are common the first several weeks of school in any school year. We understand that this is hard on our families, and we will work hard to improve our processes and procedures over the coming weeks. Please know that our building administrators and our transportation team are working hard and staying focused on getting our students safely to and from school.
