Come and join us at Community Base for a great double-header at this
month's meetup:

1. RIP NOTW. Long live Community Reporting.

Unprofessional journalism at the NOTW has killed the paper after 167
years. What can community reporters teach the professionals about
ethics, standards and finding stories?

The revelations that led to the demise of the News of the World raise
important questions about the ethical questions that face journalists
when they are digging for stories. What can community reporters learn
from what has happened? Do all reporters both professional and
community reporters need the same code of ethics? Is it ever OK to use
questionable tactics to break a story?

Come and join the debate, which will be chaired by Caroline Sutton,
who delivers training for Brighton & Hove Community Reporters and
whose previous work on various tabloids included a stint alongside
Rebekah Brooks.

2. Cybermummy Conference: Are parents leading the blogging revolution?

Local community reporter Claire Jones-Hughes attended the recent
Cybermummy conference, one of the biggest blogging conferences in the
country. She'll be sharing her impressions of the state of blogging
amongst parents and asking what community reporters can learn from
this sort of event.

Community Reporters meet-us take place every month, usually at
Community Base. We use the meeting to help people with their community
reporting, usually including practical sessions as well as encouraging
discussions and identifying different ways we can help one another.

We try to make the meetings work for three different audiences:
- community reporters - from professional jouyrnalists with an
interest in community stories to anyone with an interst in telling
stories form within or about their community
- local media - we encourage the people who run community radio
stations, community newsletters and local websites and others to come
along and get to know local community reporters and share their ideas
about the future of local news
- communities - anyone with a role in a community that has a story to
tel. We can't guarantee that the reporters will be able to help but
it's a great way of making contacts and finding out more about how to
get your story heard.

- - - -
Come along to meet other Community Reporters, media professional and
providers.  Network, swap stories, ask for advice and learn more about
the growing number of people telling their stories, in their way,
about their communities.

So if you're a blogger, Tweeter, write for local newsletter or would
like to try, come along to  find out more.
