I am thirumala raya halemane, originally from India, now settled in USA. I was fired from good job as scientist engineer from AT&T Bell Labs in 1992, causing big shock to family, wife, children, siblings, others, and not able to find another job at same level, wife worked, although in shock, initially was targeted also, but later promoted, children also were targeted, and made to suffer, same with my brothers and sisters in India, but we have faced the challenges and trying to move forward in positive ways

Thank you for sharing this. I can see you value hard work and family.

For me I studied industrial and systems engineering with political science. I started my career at Boeing and have experienced may types of roles in journalism, law, diplomacy, and of course engineering. Over 4 years I have seen how difficult it is to make life sustainable by depending on one source of income. That is why I chose to diversify my income and find ways to build an asset outside of my full time job to make life easier. Like you I am inspired by the possibility of building my own family and creating flexibility and financial independence.

have you built assets or ventures outside of your full time job?

I see. I understand that you value family and quality time living to your values. I am currently building an online business where I am building networks of consumables in health and wellness. I am fortunate to be part of a community of entrepreneurs and leaders who want everyone to succeed. The power of association is very important .

If you’d like to discuss more on the way to build financial independence I am more happy to set up a call

Thirumala Raya Halemane (He/Him)  9:17 AM
Me:
Hmm... interesting, Best Wishes. You are welcome to chat. call.

I am not focused on money matters these days (as they do not seem to work for me in what we may say is the usual way or normal way, so I need to look at it differently than most. But you are fully correct about the power of association.  In Indian culture and spirituality, it is called "sajjana sangha" the company of good people, also there is "satsangha", which generally means meeting together to pray or talk about or listen or for mutual support, mental and spiritual aspects.

I had a few colleagues at AT&T Bell Labs and also students from Korea, one or two did Masters thesis with me, i was the faculty advisor (Monmouth College in NJ). One of them, very friendly student came once to our home in Howell NJ over the weekend or so, to discuss his work, and enjoyed interacting / playing with my two sons, very young then, (in 1991 or so perhaps), and they enjoyed it too, it was kike a new experience for them, for both I guess.

Me:
I had worked in Ohmeda, a pharmaceutical company in New Jersey, for a few weeks or so (may be a month or two before I was fired), as an outside consultant (low pay kind, not the high pay kind), and it was very likely a Korean immigrant person with his own company who had hired me for that role, or it could be some other similar looking Esat Asian heritage person. And when I was walking out from there, I distinctly remember that a white lady was looking at me with a kind of a grin or bright smile, like happy-to-see-this type of face (this kind of thing may have  happened in other places also when I was fired, which has happened a few times, and became like a usual thing for me, and my family became more accustomed to it !!!!, means nothing to worry, and anyways, it was not a job that I was hoping to do for much longer, so I felt good about it, a chance to get some exposure there while making a bit of pocket money, and for our family to feel a little better with the happenings, with the situation, taking in all the stuff around us, since the 1992 firing from AT&T Bell Labs was a HUGE BIG UNEXPECTED SHOCK to us all, my wife especially, our sons, family relatives, friends, and others).

2026 April 18
Me:
I also had opportunity to fly Korean Air on one of my trips to India, some years back, in the mid 2000s or so, using my Delta miles or so, I think. So I flew from JFK to Incheon in Seoul, South Korea, and was thrilled to find out (after boarding only) that we were flying westwards over Canada and Alaska, some beautiful scenic views below, also we flew over the Alaska - Asia geography (pilot alerted us to both). Mostly I took flights via Europe to India and this trip gave me a nice feeling of having done a global full round, (ha, hha, haaa...).

I had to wait some six or so hours in Seol airport for the connecting Korean Air flight to Mumbai, and I utilized the time to walk around in the terminal extensively, to visit the various shops, focusing a bit more on the bookstores. I noticed that they had many books and textbooks in Korean language, translated from English written by famous western authors, commonly seen in the USA. India also uses similar textbooks, but written in English, International editions when available, otherwise very very expensive. No translations to Indian languages and the teaching in Indian universities is mostly in English.

Once, while still in Bell Labs, I had asked one of my Korean colleagues or students, how many years it took for South Korea to get "developed", like in science, technology, manufacturing, infrastructure etc). He said it was about 20 years or so.

I have also seen some Korea history based television series, shows, perhaps that was on PBS, and found them were very interesting. It looks like Korea, although dependent on China at various times in history, was very much an independent civilization, and was never colonized, not fully, and we see that even today, with North Korea displaying more of that sense of "free spirit" thinking or behavior, complexities arising from the second world war and later contributing more to the confusion and conflicts there.

My wife also likes to watch Korean shows. Sha has watched many many TV series over the years, and picked up some Korean language also. Then she did some online Koraen language courses too. I have watched a few series or some episodes with her, but not that many.

So, we can say that I found that Korea has much to offer, in terms of our "learning", about Asia, and the world.

I also did that ride there at the time, Pirates of the Caribbean, and enjoyed it. Yes, it was a thrilling experience. My favorite also, Since I was doing it for the first time there, and I was there for may be about half day, like six hours perhaps, I did a few rides in that time, and enjoyed them all, including roller coaster, swinging ride etc, Pirates of the Caribbean was the best a different, unexpected, new type experience, I think.

Yes, I understand how you feel. The first time I went, many of the rides seemed new and fun, but Pirates of the Caribbean really stood out. It's not just about the thrills; the whole atmosphere and experience is unique, making it different from other rides. It's impressive that you managed to experience so many rides in half a day; it sounds like you really had a great time.

my Note here (but NOTHING TO WORRY, as expected we can say, no surprise) =
I sent her two or three further messages, and she replied also nicely, promptly, sympathetically, empathetically, supportively, and which I appreciated in response.  And then another day or two after that, the account was fully DELETED, I am unable to see any of my messages also, and those later messages I had not yet copied. In them, I gave some more info about my California trip that time.

In one or two messages I mentioned about my going from Disney that evening by bus to Irvine for visiting Dr Talat Rahman, she was working there at University of California at Irvine as Physics postdoc after completing PhD at University of Rochester, where she was a fellow graduate student with me, 2 or 3 years or so my senior, and good friends with us, and helpful to us, she is from Pakistan. And after staying with her that night, next morning I went by bus to San Diego, visited and stayed with Dr Venkita Seshadri at La Jolla, he was also our good friends from University of Rochester (he was 2 years senior to me), stayed with him for two days, I visited, the zoo and we both went to the beach.

In another message I also mentioned that my trip was in connection with a nuclear physics conference in University of California, Berkeley, and the airfare to Oakland was paid by my boss Prof Larry Zamick at Rutgers Univ. from his research grant money, and that my wife Usha, having just finished her degrees (at U of R) was intensely engaged in looking for a job. So she stayed back in New Jersey, and decided not to come with me on the trip. Money was tight for us then, and that we were both on F-1 student training period visas, and there with much uncertainty about our future direction, goals, possibilities. In her replies, she said that she understood and appreciated the info messages mentioning our situation, and my wanting to visit friends, places, explore and learn in making that trip at the time, and that it was remarkable that we had come this far having faced all those challenges and difficulties with finance, with visas.

If you give your boys details, if any bride profile I notice, I can send it to you, swamin

Me:
Yes Sir Thank You, and here it is = we are seeking suitable bride for our elder son Kaviraj. ,,(info, profile, photo sent, deleted here for brevity)

PARAVASTU SVASWAMY  8:45 PM
Yes sir. What I feel is he can have a facebook account and post his brief profile, as I did. The bride side on seeing this post, will leave a message or call over the phone. Then they can exchange further full details.  This much of full details normally they won't approve if it's very lengthy.

PARAVASTU SVASWAMY  8:48 PM
Apart from this USA, Canada matrimonial is there. He can register with crispy details. He can get messages, he can post the posts of the brides too, and can interact.  Or his mother can do this with discussions within the family.

Me:
Yes, Thanks for all the various suggestions, and your concern fir us. Greatly appreciated, Very happy and very pleased to hear.  PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS, (that is the help I am requesting from everyone, while hoping and praying for things to work out, to fall in place, for the best. So, it is a very VERY simple help request, for everyone, and, I am requesting this to everyone, to the whole world.

PARAVASTU SVASWAMY  9:52 PM
Yes sir. The present trend is very tight to get a bride. Any brahmin, vegetarian, any state is the only chance.

PARAVASTU SVASWAMY  9:53 PM
The boy's need to be on search through different channels. It's better tgey select and parents to approve. No other options, in particular in the USA.  Even in India it's the trend now among the working girls, mostly.   Our role in limited beyond 30 years
