First of all, after, and because I was fired (and not promoted there at AT&T Bell Labs), I had to understand more deeply, and TRULY, why I was, and we were facing what we were up against, in order to navigate better in that situation, while as a family we had to survive and move forward, with the children also facing challenges. In other words, I / we needed to understand better the situation we are in, and thus only would be able to make any REAL progress etc   

here is a bit more = Although in severe shock and great stress, we have faced the challenges and moved forward crossing the barriers biases impediments etc that came before us, it was tough, not easy, for my wife and sons and the others also I brought up my two sons Kaviraj and Shilpi as future presidents of usa, with that attitude/ outlook/ mindset, supporting and encouraging the leadership nature already in them. They are born in usa, grew up in usa and consider themselves as Americans. He is actually a GREAT person, but faced his own challenges, especially regarding jobs in India. But he worked in Saudi Arabia for four years. Now is working as a religious assistant type small salary role in a famous temple in southern India, in Subrahmanya, he could not find a position, although having BE and M Tech engineering degrees

Btw, My elder brother (our eldest) Dr Keshava Prasad Halemane was also in AT&T Bell Labs for about two years in mid 1980s, but faced unfair treatment from his management there, so he resigned, and eventually returned to India (now retired professor, lives there). It was in fact with his help that I was able to get interviews and job offer there, he had joined there first, I did not get it when I had applied earlier on my own).

When I drafted my first resume, at University of Rochester, Rochester NY, using a little manual they had for students to write their resumes for guiding my writing of it, I had written in it, as my job objective, "a position of EXCELLENCE", and gave it to the advisors at the Career Placement Service Center there, she advised me well, that I had to change it, I will not get any job offers with that, be more specific about the job goals etc, and so I did that (it was not easy for me to get one, even then, and as at all times, later also, now also. Btw, My elder brother (our eldest) Dr Keshava Prasad Halemane was also in AT&T Bell Labs for about two years in mid 1980s, but faced unfair treatment from his management there, so he resigned, and eventually returned to India (now retired professor, lives there). It was in fact with his help that I was able to get interviews and job offer there, he had joined there first, I did not get it when I had applied earlier on my own).

In 1992 September or so, when I was without job and salary, my wife was hired at PRI, Johnson & Johnson company, offices in Bridgewater, NJ by a Nigerian origin biostatistics scientist supervisor manager there, and she worked there for two years. It was considered temporary and part-time hourly about $25 or so (?), for 37.5 hours per week, no benefits, and she wanted to be in that field so joined there as a way to get into the field. Sometime later, after she left, maybe it was in early 1995 (?), she recommended me to her previous employers, and the same person hired me also, same type of work, and salary. I did get some good experience there, learned some biostatistics etc, gathered some insights into that field, company politics type issues, and was fired from there after about two months. No problems, it was far away, like 2hours driving from home each way, our children were more on their own, work and salary much different from AT&T Bell Labs job etc, it was just that I was employed and got some pocket money when we were still financially facing hardship compared to when I was better employed. So, I was happy to get out of that job, no problem, and I was happy to get that experience there, and the pocket money. The getting fired again and again actually made it becoming more familiar and comfortable with the "fired from job" scenario, although for no fault of mine, to us, me and family members, less of an issue, compared to when I was fired in 1992 March from AT&T Bell Labs, Member of Technical Staff job,, scientist-engineer type role, with $65,000 annual pay, with full benefits at the time. So, anyways, we both, my wife & me, had worked previously with a boss who was from Nigeria. And later, like 2 decades later, my youngest brother worked in Nigeria itself.
