Dr Cliff, I remember a conversation with my sister-in-law Sudha Kailar about subject fields, and I said "even Mathematics is only a model". It was back in 1983-84 when we were at State University College, Fredonia NY. I do not remember exactly, but very likely I was commenting on the common notion many of us had then about "pure Mathematics", that is "purity" of Mathematics, which was, in sone sense, considered as the "purest" of the sciences, others like physics for example, involves various approximations in its progress, way forward etc. and perhaps this is where the "theology" and the Church factor that is mentioned in that talk by video by Prof C K Raju can be connected. O am offering my take or opinion about it. Ancient Indian approach to Science or Mathematics "GANITHA" or Knowledge, is not limited or "constricted" by such type "reasoning", but the effort there is for embracing truth, in all its aspects, including feasible or needed or existing or possible or impossible etc aspects, which we may consider is like the "involving Infinity" claim by the speaker in that talk. As we know, "theological purity" notion relates or exists or put forth by people in religions also, for the progress of their agendas. and it has its own impacts, repercussions, in the real world. Thanks for bearing with me, my guesses and opinions.

I understand "venting" and its de-stressing benefits instead of the harm stress does if internalized, especially when stress is caused because of friction with power over which you have no ways to fight back and redeem yourself or what you feel is rightfully yours. However my approach to such situations is, and has been, somewhat different than what we may see around often or usually. I follow what we call as dharma, swa-dharma for me, and so far I have been fully satisfied in doing so, etc, although others may think I have been somewhat stupid in not being able to advance higher according to their sense of success etc. If so, then, so be it. I am not going by those measurements.

..And false accusations are even made by individuals who may justify it to themselves and those around them in the name of justifiable "politics" for manufacturing perceptions for helping in their agendas, (and I have seen it happen, with our temple efforts in New Jersey, during HTCS-HATCC merger talks, with people pushing for such a goal, to eliminate HATCC, to help the agenda of HTCS by deliberately bad-mouthing HATCC, its leaders, objectives etc, even mis-representations, false accusations also, back in 1990-91, early 1990s timeframe. The Indian American community here has come a long way since then; much transformation has happened.

Our temple effort, with its own community-internal & external politics, here in New Jersey, and its influence & impacts, here and beyond, including in USA, India, worldwide, on Hindus, Indians, as well as others, all people, has been pivotal, served as turning point, transformation catalyst, since 1987, and has opened up new ways, new possibilities, new views, new attitudes, new approaches for doing things, for life and living !!! And, one might add, for good & bad, whether you like it or not, but it is kind of inevitable, no other choice so to say, and is for Truth & Dharma, natural progress.

Thirumala Raya Halemane, maybe your observations are correct. But we need to deep drive to find the truth. Indian history is altered by many distortarians we assume as historians. They were with a single motive to diminish Sanatan pride and glorify the invaders. Else see it's very little known King Ashoka was converted to Buddhism much before he ascended the throne killing or imprisoning his elders like Aurangzeb did centuries later. The massacre of Kalinga was not by Sanatan Ashoka but by Buddhist Ashoka, and that also not all Buddhism is in the cause of influence, but the Buddhism of Afghanistan being the influence.

Thanks for those references above, links to Prof C K Raju's video and work. I watched the video. Yes, indeed, it is amazing, lots of good info, perspectives on how Mathematics has developed, colonial impacts on education etc. Very impressive in its own way.

By the way, I have an MA in Maths also, and, although I was always much interested in Maths, I decided that I did not want to go much deeper than that into it, and that I felt better about doing things that are more likely to be viewed as being in the applications realm, not just "theoretical" for its own sake.

I have done research work in theoretical physics back then. PhD in Physics, and later for some years of research & teaching, also in industry. Now, totally out of touch with my past work fields for many many years.

In many cases, including in physics, we often forget the "assumptions". and there could be some implied assumptions which are not stated. For example, in Mechanics, the many body problem is considered not solvable exactly, but Mechanics can make progress and deliver useful results for applications in spite of this huge handicap or difficulty

pranav, i understand the unhappiness or anger with M K Gandhi here, but there is a lot more to it regarding Gandhi's previous experiences and hardships that he underwent, which made him the kind of individual he was at that stage in life. From what I have read, there was some foreign individual friend (very likely targeted by that intelligence agent, who he was working for) of his who basically entrapped him into a homosexual type relationship, Gandhi was psychologically "taken over" by him. as is mentioned in some letter that Gandhi wrote to him. (these kinds of info are generally not well publicized, so not well known). It would have pushed down the consciousness level, from which to rise up, Gandhi would have struggled like this for some kind of "sadhana" like this, for his own self, without realizing how he was affecting the others, "victimized" in this respect, and behaving badly as the leader of Indian Civilization, to which position he was more or less pushed into by the forces which were operating around him, including the British, also the Indian Royals, and the Indian and foreign Deep States, not just the Indian common man, for whom he was high up there as a Mahatma, but it was not a place where they can hope to get to, or even wanted to get to, since their participation in the struggle for freedom was just that, "swarajya", not suppression, not colonial rule, not evil kind of discrimination etc. So, the issue is much bigger than what is usually presented as by anti-Gandhi and pro-Gandhi forces. TRUTH is much much much deeper and wider, lots of it not fully known etc. !!!!!
