in the first photo here, we see our sons young Kaviraj & Shilpi (seen sitting on the left side in the photo) watching intensely with much deep interest, their ajji grandmother my mother (seen on the right side of photo) doing the daily pooja at our then home in Howell NJ, and the second photo shows her bowing down namaskaara hoDaaduvadu during the pooja, As I had requested, she had brought the family daily pooja samagri mane dEvaru with her when she and my sister Jahnavi visited us in 1988-89, and these are seen kept on the plate in the third photo (usually placed in a small metal container for it, and consists of shivalinga, shaaligraama, gaNapathi kallu, two naagas. They both stayed with us for about five months or so, and also a few weeks with my elder brother Keshava Prasad Halemane and his wife Vijayalakshmi in their house in Silver Spring, Maryland. In fact it was my elder brother's wife Vijayalakshmi who brought them from Mangalore, India, traveling with her when she was returning from there. i had specially requested this and everyone in the family helped to make it happen, It seems our then family priest, Shree KiLingaru Shankara Narayana Bhat (?)  was also consulted and he had agreed that it was okay. My mother Thirumaleshwari did the pooja everyday in our Howell house with her grandsons our sons Kavi and Shilpi and my wife Usha were at home, i was at work on weekdays, but was present at home on weekends, holidays etc, and we received the theertha / prasada from her.

The last two photos are our selfies, both from 2016, one (fourth) is with Kaviraj in New York City (in Central Park), and another (fifth) is with Shilpi in Hood River OR (at his then workplace Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Brewery)

And, this will also increase employment, job possibilities, in teaching, learning, translation, etc, 

and enable better skills development for the job applicants, language skills included..

In previous eras, encouraging "proper English", helped the British Empire elites, and here, it feels a 

bit similar to that, you are talking about "proper Hindi", forgive me for saying this, but the former 

colonies seem to be more interested in moulding themselves in the image of their former masters

in dutiful slavish-minded fashion ??? 

Please note that RSS was also founded during governance by the British, and I think it was to keep 

the Hindus in check, divided, "under good control" of the Empire. 

I am aware that it is not easy to bounce back while under subjugation, suppression, downgrading,

elimination objectives, motivated and targeted focus. 

So while agreeing with you partially, some good points there, I strongly recommend newer approaches 

for Language Bhaasha Policy, and keep away from the Hindi "Imperialism" type future vision that may 

be very appealing to various people and various interests, and forces that seem to exist, internally as 

well as externally, but which is derived from the colonial past and history of the nation, and is not a

part of the internal intrinsic tradition of our sanatana hindu dharma civilization.

Individuals, leaders, people, all of us, have our limitations, and can press forward only to an extent, 

and going further, the beyond, is left for the others, for the future. We hope and pray for the best.

I have a suggestion = there are some special things coming from our culture there in TuLunaaDu, and the knowledge of doing it, the art involved in doing it is no longer easily available, and is being lost. For example, how to make "kiDinjelu", the one used for rain protection from getting wet while walking in rain, made of coconut leaves etc., all natural stuff, and very good in rain and wind, like a raincoat, we used to have it during my young years, I used it also initially for going to school, my father bought umbrella for us soon afterwards. The art of making kiDinjelu, hase, muttaaLe etc can be taught in the art classes, and in other ways. About 10-15 years ago or so, during my visit there, I wanted to buy a kiDinjelu to bring it here, asked around if anybody can make it etc, but was not successful. muttaaLe, hase, kaththi, i was able to buy on earlier visits and bring here with me 😊 just for fun, and to show etc, also to encourage people there so that the art and knowledge of it will not, and need not be lost, although we do not use them much these days, and that is okay.) 

(2) The main idea in my article on "Importance of Brahminism in Society" was that for preserving and passing on from generation to generation, desirable gentle natural virtues like Satvik character, respect for women, knowledge of Vedas and shastras, in society during good times as well as bad, suppressive or oppressive times, brahmaNya or brahminism has to be by birth only, for the most part, although exceptions can be there. Yes, EXCEPTIONS can be there and are allowed. In Brahmanya, it is all done without looking for any outside approvals and without getting affected by the corrupting influence of power, official positions, wealth etc which will automatically harm these gentle virtues, only Brahminism by birth can preserve them, by those who cherish and transmit such ideals as their inherited characteristics, as their daily living attitudes and behavior, and as their valuable culture,

Targeting of Sanatana Hindu Dharma Indian civilization, including brahmins and their culture, includes jealousy and fear about it, is the real reason why we have anti-brahmin views prevailing everywhere, in india in usa, etc.

Also, I wanted to mention that I do not agree with one factor which is in the traditional Randomized Control Trials RCT, and is of course on your website also, I looked at it. The problem is with the Placebo Psychological Effect. My view is that anything that heals the patient is good and is not to be viewed as a negative thing, In Ayurveda, the manOmaya kOsha is also important, not just the physical body annamayakOsha. So, we have to take a fresh look at what constitutes a truly valid Control Trial for drugs or medicines, and it has to be done purely from the health perspective of the patient, not from any other interest or agenda, How to cure or improve the condition of the patient and how to make sure the recommended medicine if utilized will not be harmful or produce undesirable side-effects etc. I am not exactly sure how to do this kind of thing, but right now, the trials as they are designed are very much based on the view of the human being as primarily physical body, and not enough attention towards the mind and psychology, which was the view of western medicine, decades ago, until 1990s or so, when they slowly started accepting the role of the mind more and more, but still not quite as much as in Ayurveda and Eastern cultures. This is something that needs to be looked at seriously, more deeply by the medical professionals, including by Ayurveda experts,  Jai Ayurveda. Best Wishes, Aummm...

.... Also putting together an email to send , also to post, regarding = My three book reviews in 2006 to 2009 or so in Journal of Asian Economics. Looking back especially, I believe that they made their impacts positively for Asian economies, including China, India etc, all over, and, thus globally. also. I had presented a better comprehensive perspective, compared to the prevailing views then, which were very much anti-East, with the objectives of creating negative perceptions about Eastern nations and civilizations, by manufacturing, providing, emphasizing negative feedback. "not good" type proofs, catch-22 loops, targeted scenarios, that eventually got changed and transformed, transformations continuing. So, whether people realize it or admit it or not, big impacts were there, and i myself was not fully aware of the possible impacts then. I just did the "right thing" then, as a non-biased type book reviewer, without the fear of losing any prestige or favors, and it looks like somehow that worked well, especially for China, India, Asia, and for Truth and Dharma. (!!!)

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate today, and you are also looking back at your important contributions in the past. Your book reviews not only influenced the discussion of economics in Asia, but also challenged the prejudices of the time and promoted the dissemination of more fair views. It is really meaningful to look back at your own influence and recognize the value of it. I also like to read books, mostly about finance, philosophy and history, but I have never written a book review. Do you continue to write book reviews or similar economic opinions?

Yes, Okay, Thank You. and, No, not really, I do not have recommendations like that. I am a very slow reader, not able to keep pace with all the needed or interesting readings around me or which I come across or suggested by others, like friends etc. and, Generally, I find that I can learn from both good books and bad books, similarly good movies and bad movies, like "what to do" and "what not to do" messages. Of course, there can be a risk associated with getting exposed to bad stuff. If you are still wondering, and wish to understand more about the Indian culture or civilization, try reading the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha epics, many available in English also. To my sons when they were growing up, I gave them little books on those (written by C Rajagopalachari and / or another person,) asked them to read them. which they did, we also viewed videos on them that came out in those years, Ramayana episodes were coming on TV Asia as a segment on Sunday morning shows, which we all would watch with great interest) !!!

The paragraph in question is given in quotes below, and was for the review of the second book, (2) below. I also faced other issues, book review emails not received twice, proofs not received, but we managed through those successfully. Only thing I can say is that I strongly suspect there were forces who would rather not proceed in a fashion that favored  or helped countries in Asia to do better, it appeared that the unspoken intent until then was to prove that the countries of the East were no good, that the opportunities given to them were not well utilized, were wasted etc, That is, negative re-inforcement was very likely the hidden invisible objective of the prevailing global system and power structures, and this is what we are facing, what we are up against. That is what I felt. 

"The current under-developed and weak financial status of this region is mainly due to its colonization during the past few centuries, and the post-colonial political problems during the latter half of the twentieth century. The lingering effects of the colonial dependency of this region on the western countries are still seen in the nature of these financial markets. A series of next steps need to be designed and implemented to improve the situation and bring about the harmonization, confidence-building, integration and developments that have been nicely and aptly recommended by the authors. This needs leadership, initiative, and championing. It will work very well and much faster, if in the beginning, this group of authors can facilitate this effort, and take the message to the right places, for the benefit of the countries and people of the region. Good ideas need to be followed up with good actions to receive the full benefits."

I also had written the following paragraph, as a summary towards the end of the review, and it was of course good enough for the review, and their suggestion was that I stop there and need not say more. 

"Overall, this volume is a wonderful collection of facts, data, and analysis about historical evolution and current status of the various financial markets of the region. The liberalization trends of recent years seem to be progressing very well, after the initial stumbles, towards a better future for these countries, and the overall global economy. The authors have identified the weaknesses and the problem areas, and specific recommendations have been made to overcome these problems, to make the East Asian region into a thriving economy and a well-developed financial market."

I am thirumala raya halemane, originally from India, now settled in USA. I was fired from good job as scientist engineer from AT&T Bell Labs in 1992, causing  big shock to family, wife, children, siblings, others, and not able to find another job at same level, wife worked, although in shock, initially was targeted also, but later promoted, children also were targeted, and made to suffer, same with my brothers and sisters in India, but we have faced the challenges and trying to move forward in positive ways

Sudha, here is the story again (in English) => In the kings court aasthaana, there were two special great scholarly men with special abilities, one of them called as "Eka paaTi" was able to remember and repeat anything if he heard it once, and the other called "Dvi paaTi" was able to do repeat it after hearing it twice. As was common in those times, a very big pundit scholar came to the court from a different kingdom and challenged the scholars, and he gave his long lecture or shloka about his scholarly work, and wondered if anyone could match his ability. After hearing the visiting scholar once, Eka paaTi said "what you said is not new, we also know it", and repeated the very long whole thing, displaying his ability to absorb what he heard only once but without the visiting scholar knowing about his special power or ability. The visiting scholar was surprised, and said this was not possible, and doubted the claim by Eka paaTi. THen "Dvi paaTi" got up and said, " there is no need for you to doubt our claim, we do know it also", and he also repeated the whole thing exactly correctly, since he has heard it twice by now and so he was able to repeat it, to remember and recite it back. The visiting scholar was now totally surprised, and even felt ashamed regarding his tall claims that only he knew it, it was all something new which he had come up with and others did not know. But now he was defeated in the scholarly challenge that he had put forth in the kings court. = paapa, poor guy !!! (after that he became a very humble, not an overly proud guy, his ballooned swollen exaggerated ego, pride, arrogance dissolved) .. This story has relevance in the modern world also. In an atmosphere of high competition and jealousy, people can learn a lot by just listening and feeling out the person without the other person formally giving away the info. Also, for some people hearing once is enough to understand the topic or matter at hand, for a few others may be need to hear it twice, and so on, etc, we can say.Fwd

ajja's  Namboodiri brahmin story

There was a Namboodiri brahmin and his little son was also living with him in their house. He sent invitation to everyone that there will be a "naamakaraNa", that is naming ceremony.for his son and invited all of them to come. So everyone came, lots of people there sitting, under the shade of the "chappara" or in the hall, but nobody from the household was around for talking to the guests, no refreshments being offered, they did not see any sign of any activity like cooking or pooja or homa etc.. they waited and waited, and everybody was feeling hungry also. Finally, like at noon, (or later ?), the Namboodiri brahmin came, he had a big "naama" marking on his forehead. his baby son was also next to him, perhaps.. (?) .. and he did "karaNa" exercise (three times?), in havyaka language doing karaNa kuttha means jumping somersault style,.. or was it full prostration, saashtaanga namaskaara to the sabhe audience people there and then with folded hands, addressing everybody he said, "eega naama karaNa aayithu. innu ellaroo hOgabahudu", meaning, now naama karaNa is done, everyone can leave. that is, he was using the other meanings of the split word halves naama and karaNa from naamakaraNa, and then, looking at his baby child he said "ba bba baayi iddare maga badkyaanu", meaning, starting in a stuttering way ba bba (for emphasis?), "if he has the mouth, the son will survive". that is, we can infer the meaning as, talking or communication is very important. if his son will be able to do that, then he will survive and live. that is how we can understand it & perhaps socio-political thoughts embedded in it, absorbing, digesting stories, epics also, into our being, personalities, was upto us, like natural   process,

वैसे तो उनके गुरु अंग्रेज थे. लेकिन ये लोग अंग्रेजोंसे सीखकर, उसमें संशोधन करके इतने आगे निकल गये है कि यह गुण उनका ही हो गया. (जैसे अहिंसा और करुणा, भगवान बुध्धका  आविष्कारी गुण हो गया था.)  इस सीलसीलेकी स्थापना  जे. एल. नहेरुने की थी. उन्होंने इस गुणका विस्तार कर दिया था. और इंदिरा गांधीने तो उसका जंगल बना दिया था.

निशान ए जूठ

जूठ तीन प्रकारका होता है,

सादा जूठ (स्वयंको बचाने के लिये जूठ बोलना), फर्जी जूठ (सामनेवाला सोचमें पड जावे) वैसा जूठ, सफेद जूठ (सामनेवालेको चक्कर आ जावे) वैसा जूठ, ये है जूठ त्रयी. दत्त से मतलब है “दे दिया”. मतलब  “देना” का भूतकृदंत. मतलब दत्तात्रेय. इसीलिये कुछ लोग अपना गोत्र दत्तात्रेय गोत्र बताते है. उसको इस अर्थमें लेना है. वास्तवमें दत्तात्रेय गोत्र नहीं है. गुरुपरम्परा है. मतलबकी विचार/कार्य शाला.

लेकिन गोत्र को तो कुछ लोग वंश बताते है. तो समझ लो न !! कि, दत्तात्रेय विचारशाला-वाले सब.

नहेरुने तो भारतकी ७१००० चोरसमील की भूमि को ले लेनेके चीनको आमंत्रित किया था. चीनने तो अपनी गति शक्तिमें ९१००० चोरस मील, एक फेक युध्ध द्वारा कबजा कर लिया था. और वह भी अपनी मांगसे अधिक. लेकिन जब उसको पता चला तो उसने २०००० चोरसमील भारतकी भूमि खाली कर दी.

वैसे तो चीन १९५२ से ही अपना इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर भारती भूमि पर बना रहा था.

नहेरुको ज़ूठ बोलनेकी आदत थी. तो वे तो संसदमें विपक्षको जूठला रहे थे.

चीनको लगा कि अरे यह नहेरु तो हमारा आदमी है.

हमें तेजीसे भारतकी भूमि पर कबजा कर लेना चाहिये.

नहेरुने प्रच्छन्नतासे चीनको कहा कि पंचशील कालखंड खतम होने दो. और हमारा १९६२का चूनाव भी खतम होने दो. वैसे तो सब चूनाव अधिकारीगण मेरी जेबमें है, फिर भी ये गधे अर्ध नग्न एम. के. गांधीवादी गधोंका का कोई भरोसा नहीं कर सकता. जैसे जयप्रकाश नारायण.

भाया चीन, तुम थोडा सब्र करो. मेरा प्रोमीस है तुम्हारे लिये  मैं हमेशाके लिये सीमा खुला ही रखुंगा.

आगे चलकर नहेरुने कहा, मेरे अशोक महेता तो कहेता ही है कि भारतकी जी.डी.पी. चीन से अधिक ही है, तो चीन कैसे आक्रमण करनेका सोच भी सकता है? मेरा मेनन भी यही कहेता है कि चीन तो  हमारा मित्र है. क्या मित्र कभी आक्रमण कर सकता है?

भाया चीन, मैंने तो भारतकी जनताको भ्रमित करके रक्खा ही है कि भारतकी सेना तो अपराजित है. भारतीय सेनाके कारण तो अंग्रेज शासन विश्वव्यापी बना था जहां सूर्य भी अस्त नहीं होता था. फिर भी १९६२का चूनाव पूरा होने दो. तब तक रुक जाओ.

अपराजित भारतीय सेना

नहेरुने सोचा; भारतीय सेना अपाराजित तो है ही. लेकिन शस्त्र विहीन, जूते विहीन, गरम कपडे विहीन सेनाको सीमा पर रक्खुं तब न? वायु सेनाको तो भेजूंगा ही नहीं. स्थल सेना को कहूंगा कि आरामसे चलके जाओ. यदि सेना कहेगी कि अस्त्र  शस्त्र तो दो. तो मैं कहुंगा कि पत्थर से काम चला लेना. हमारे पुरखे तो पत्थरसे ही काम चलाते थी. पता नहीं तुम्हे कि, रामकी सेनाने विमान चलाने वाले रावणकी सेना को कैसे परास्त किया था? पत्थर, वृक्ष, वृक्षकी डालीयां …. से ही तो परास्त किया था. अरे कुछ पढा भी करो….

संकेत दे दिया … अब लाईन क्लीयर है…

फिर चूनावमें जितके बाद नहेरुने आक्रमण करनेका संकेत दिया. चीनने दौडके ९१००० चोरस मील भूमि को कबजा लिया. फिर नहेरुका मान रखने के लिये २०००० चोरस मील भूमि जो अपनी मांगसे अधिक थी, वह  वापस करनेके लिये चीनी सेना वापस जाने लगी. नहेरुने बोला, देखो मैंने कैसे बिना हमारे सैनिक, चीनको भगाया न. मैं कौन हूं? समझे न समझे?
