"REFLECTIONS ON AMERICA", my talk at AT&T Bell Labs, in a special Speakers Forum, on 1991 September 27

It was prepared and delivered, fully with an empathetic, supportive, helpful positive attitude. 

My personal style observations were made and some suggestions were also given, in this talk reflecting on America, 

keeping in mind the situations prevailing at the time, and the expectations for a better future we all hoped for.

America is a very unique place in the world, one of its kind, no other place is like it. 

It was a new world "found" and traversed by adventurous explorers.

inhabited by freedom loving refugee settlers and native Indians. 

Indians were then defeated by fearful settlers seeking self-preservation, control, success, glory.

Nation is built by teamwork between whites, blacks, immigrants  

Women and Blacks and Women and minorities get more freedom.

Immigration extended to Asians.

Becomes a haven for free thinking individuals and pursuit of new ideas.

Tremendous advances in economy, and in all fields, in science, technology, sports, arts,  

Individual and Group achievements.

Becomes a Leader and an Example To Follow for the rest of the world.

(in spite of the slightly chequered past, all have that)

NOW FACING NEW ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CHALLENGES

It is suggested to 

Dismantle the "Old Boy Network" that ruled Corporate America then, having served its time and purposes.

Replace it by Building a New Open Network Of Boys and Girls Who Can Deliver.

America is not about furthering Old Boy Network dominance, 

but is about delivering for its people, and about ideas for the good of its people.

Many shortcomings, problems, issues of the times can be traced to the limitations of this style of working,

and they can be overcome with the new suggestions made. 

That style of working caused too much in-breeding, 

license to discrimination, 

unable to get the best, 

unable to take the benefit by utilizing diversity,

unable to adapt to new or changing world conditions.

The new suggestions can take the burden off Old Boys. 

It can give opportunities / responsibilities to the newly hungry, to hungry new boys and girls.

It makes better use of diversity.

Make Everyone Full Partners in The Progress of America.

Individual vs Group

Short Term vs Long Term

Freedom vs Responsibility

Competition vs TeamWork / Cooperation

Live To Work vs Work To Live

The talk concludes with a new slogan suggestion (apt for the then prevailing times / situations)
