Working Title: Senior Cerner CCL
Position Type: Contract Role
Location: Remote within the United States (Austin, TX )


Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, analyze, and document clinical workflows across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary care settings.
  • Translate clinical and operational requirements into technical specifications for reporting, analytics, ETL, and migration solutions.
  • Design, develop, optimize, test, and maintain Cerner Command Language (CCL) scripts in Cerner Millennium environments.
  • Perform complex data extraction, validation, reconciliation, and transformation activities using Cerner Millennium Oracle schemas.
  • Support enterprise-wide EHR migration and legacy system retirement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain structured data feeds, flat file extracts, and ETL pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot CCL performance issues and downstream integration/reporting challenges.
  • Collaborate with clinical informatics stakeholders and technical teams to ensure accurate implementation of clinical intent.
  • Communicate technical dependencies, limitations, and data constraints to non-technical audiences.
  • Execute and tune CCL scripts and manage batch jobs across production and non-production environments.
  • Support healthcare interoperability, REST/SOA integrations, and enterprise reporting systems.
  • Ensure adherence to HHSC standards, governance policies, and security requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory Qualifications

  • 11+ years of experience understanding clinical workflows and healthcare operations.
  • 11+ years supporting large-scale EHR implementations, migrations, or optimization initiatives.
  • 11+ years translating clinical requirements into technical and data specifications.
  • 11+ years of advanced hands-on experience with Cerner Command Language (CCL).
  • Strong working knowledge of Cerner Millennium architecture and Oracle databases.
  • Extensive experience with SQL, Linux, and enterprise data extraction/migration patterns.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data integrations and reporting environments.
  • Experience with REST/SOA development and service integrations.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, networking, and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience writing, executing, and optimizing CCL scripts in production environments.
  • Experience with system integration, data extraction, and enterprise code development.
  • Working knowledge of Java, C, C++, Python, Perl, or OCI.
  • Hands-on experience supporting cloud-based services in AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting Cerner Millennium environments.
  • Previous experience serving as a Senior Cerner Consultant or Technical Lead.
  • Healthcare domain experience supporting enterprise clinical systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
