The Vaikuntha Loka or the spiritual world is a place of all bliss, eternity and knowledge. Vaikuntha means a place where there is no anxiety or kuntha. There are numerous spiritual planets in the Vaikuntha where the Supreme Personality of Godhead resides in His different incarnations. There is a planet where Lord Narasimha is residing eternally. Lord Ram is residing in His planet called Saket and all His associates and consort are eternally engaged in loving pastimes with Him. There are numerous planets where Lord Narayana in His four handed form holding the conch-shell, lotus, club and disc is the presiding Deity. The spiritual world is in the shape of a lotus flower. All planets form the whorl of this lotus. The central part is the Supreme most Goloka Vrindavan planet. Here the Supreme Personality of Godhead resides in His original form of Sri Krishna and is always enjoying with His associates in different mellows of transcendental love. But our beloved Lord is not so far from us.
Mathura, Vrindavan and the surrounding region forming an area of 168 square miles (84 kroshas) in the northern region of India is called Vraja Ksetra. The spiritual world is naturally superior to the material world. However, Mathura and the adjoining areas, although appearing in the material world, are considered superior to the spiritual world because Krishna Himself appeared in Mathura. The interior forests of Vrindavan such as Talavana, Madhuvana, Bahulavana which are the 12 famous forests of Vraja are considered even superior to Mathura because Lord Krishna, although He appeared in Mathura, He manifest his transcendental pastimes in these forests. Here He killed the demons Putana, Dhenukasura, Trinavarta. Here He displayed the beautiful dance on the thousand hood of serpent Kaliya.
Superior to these interior forests of Vrindavan is the Govardhan Hill because Krishna raised Govardhan with His own lotus like beautiful hands like an umbrella to protect His associates, the denizens of Vraja, from the torrential rains sent by the angry Indra, King of the demigods. It is also at Govardhan Hill that Krishna tends the cows with His cowherd friends, the gopas. It is here that He has His rendezvous with His most beloved Srimati Radharani and engages in loving pastimes with Her.
However, superior to all these places and dear most to Lord Krishna is the Radha-kunda, at the foot of Govardhan because it is here that love of Krishna overflows. When Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu first visited the area of Vrajabhumi, He was searching for the exact location of Radha kunda. Finally, at the holy spot, He found a small pond within rice fields. He was in complete ecstasy and took a holy bath in that small pond and told His devotees that this is the actual Radha-Kunda. Later the pond was excavated by Mahaprabhu’s devotees headed by the six Goswamis of Vrindavan. Presently there is a large lake known as Radha-kunda. It is said in the Varaha Puran that Sri Radha-Kunda is the destroyer of all our sins and the bestower of one-pointed prema or love for Krishna. Advanced devotees prefer to reside at Radha-Kunda because this is the site of many memories of the eternal loving affairs between Krishna and Radharani.
No person with transcendental intelligence will give up Radha-Kunda and try to reside elsewhere. The importance of Radha-Kunda, however, cannot be realized by other Vaisnava sampradayas, nor can persons uninterested in the devotional service of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu understand the divine nature of Radha-kunda. Thus, Radha-Kunda is mainly worshiped by Gaudiya Vaishnavas, the followers of Lord Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahprabhu.
Sri Radha-Kunda ki Jai!!
