No Time?

Have you ever asked your friend – Please read Bhagavad Gita? Please chant at least one round of Hare Krishna every day. The answer we would most probably get would be – Oh! I would love to. But seriously, I can’t find time. I have a very hectic schedule, too much work load. How can I ever engage myself in devotional or spiritual activities?

Now let’s evaluate how true this statement is. Here I’ll talk about students, myself being one. Of the 24 hours that Lord Krishna has gifted all of us, we require 6 hours of sleep. That leaves us with 18 hours. Even if we are too slow in our daily chores, we won't require more than 30 min for bath, 30 min for daily ablutions and 30 min each for the four meals we have everyday. That makes it up to 3 hours. So now we are left with 15 hours. A college student has maximum 8 hours of classes every day. Even the most serious student would study maximum 3 hours daily beyond normal class hours. Commuters another 2 hours of our precious time, still after all these activities, we are still having 2 full hours to engage in any activity we like.

So where are these full 2 hours disappearing?! Largely it goes in pep talks and gossips. Or, for some of us, it may be going in oversleeping, over relaxing or simply on facebook, twitter or Whats App! Little do we realize that these activities not only kill our 2 hours, they create traffic jams in the smooth flow of our thoughts. Little do we realize that the way we spend these small voids during the day decides how we perform in our academics.

So, here is how we can find time for spiritual activities – right from tomorrow, lets try to squeeze out only 5 minutes from our “busy schedule”. Maximum it will take us to do this is to walk away from a gossip upstart or sleep 5 minutes less. Then lets utilize these 5 minutes in whatever we like the best – like chanting Hare Krishna, listening to an inspirational spiritual lecture or reading only 1 page of Bhagavad Gita. Now that we have begin, the power of Krishna’s mercy is so strong that gradually we will be able to squeeze out all time wasters which are also mind wasters and increase our focus in everything we do. Ultimately we will be able to achieve fulfillment in our lives. Hare Krishna.
