E = mc2 in Bhagavad Gita!!
bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ
khaḿ mano buddhir eva ca
ahańkāra itīyaḿ me
bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā
- Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 7, Verse 4
Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego—all together these eight constitute My separated material energies.
In 1905, in his paper Annus Mirabilis, Einstein first expressed this idea. His classical equation E = mc2, popularly known as the mass energy equivalence is the concept that the mass of an object is a measure of its energy content. Until then the scientists were of the opinion that any object was made up of matter composed of the 100 plus elements enlisted in the periodic table. However the ancient scientists would have a simplified and more holistic classification of elements as earth, water, fire, air and ether.
After years of struggle in the laboratories, litres of perspiration and bundles of dollars, with the experiments performed 100 meters underground in CERN, Switzerland, the scientific society finally concluded in the year 1932, that indeed matter is also a form of energy.
With a simple faith in Krishna and His words, this could have been known without so much hassle. In this verse of Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna specifically mentions the gross elements which compose matter – earth, water, fire, air, ether, and tells Arjuna that these constitute His material ENERGY.
Lesson: God is very merciful. Out of His compassion, to save us
the trouble of running Large Hadron Colliders and Cyclotrons, He has already published
all the facts regarding this universe and beyond in our time-tested scriptures:
Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, the Puranas, the Vedas, Upanishads etc. Now
the choice is ours. We should decide which is a better way to satisfy our
quest?
