I would like to talk about philanthropic activities in America through
my experience and a thought as an international student. I felt
philanthropic activity is so active in the United States. I went to a
volunteer work the other day and one participant from high school told
me that students are required to join civic activities to graduate in
America. I've never done that in my high school days and those civic
activities were not mandatory for graduation in my country so that I
was really impressed by those students who use their holidays for
those works. Although participating willingly might be better, it is
still a good chance to recognize the problems which the community has
and be a part to solve problems. Also, this activity can more or less
enforce the sense of belonging to the community.
Philanthropic activity is nowadays expected to complement government
activities which cannot fulfill the various and detail society's needs
for public services. Especially in America, there are many different
races, ethnics, and cultural needs. Instead, there are many types of
non profits to compatible to each issue. Maybe therefore there are
many non profits to address each issue. So far, I just provided one
example of the philanthropy activities in the United States, but if
someone knows the problems philanthropy activities have, I would like
to know.
