Betreff: Veranstaltungshinweis und CfP
Datum: 18.

Call for Participation: Fachtagung Spiel | Museum 2025

Einreichefrist: 13. Juli 2025, Tagung 12.-14.

Hi Ulrich, this is an invitation from the president of the Game Museum of the Paraíba Federal University where I'm going to have my PhD. Attached a letter from any institution you believe could be interested.

Mauricio

lication for the UNESCO Chair in Traditional Games and Sports

Dear colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to address you. I am Elizara Carolina Marin, a professor at the Federal University of Paraíba, and I have the honor of collaborating in the preparation of the application for the creation of a UNESCO Chair in Traditional Games and Sports (JET), promoted by the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia (INEFC), a leading academic institution linked to the University of Barcelona and the University of Lleida, in Spain.

The objective of this Chair is to recognize and promote traditional games and sports as living intangible cultural heritage, highlighting their capacity to act as educational and social resources with extraordinary transformative potential. The proposal seeks to consolidate itself as an international platform for research, training, and cooperation with the following main goals:

Inventory and recognize representative traditional games and sports in different geographical contexts, valuing their cultural diversity and their social and educational contributions, in order to preserve them as living heritage.

Design, implement, and evaluate training programs and research actions that offer solid scientific evidence on the contribution of these games to the construction of more peaceful, inclusive, and egalitarian societies, within the framework of quality physical education.

Strengthen international cooperation, positioning traditional games and sports as catalysts for inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development.

The Chair has a global vocation and plans to develop actions in Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, promoting research projects, training, and cooperation networks that integrate the cultural richness of each continent.

In this context, we are pleased to invite your organization to evaluate the possibility of collaborating on this application. If you are interested, we would appreciate knowing what types of actions you could be involved in, such as:

Inventory of traditional games and sports in your region.

Conducting simple research, focusing on some of these themes according to your preference: intercultural dialogue, peaceful coexistence, gender equality, social inclusion, sustainability, or conflict transformation.

Training, supporting the organization of in-person and virtual seminars or courses.

Dissemination of results through social media, joint publications, or the production of awareness-raising materials.

Networking, facilitating links with associations or institutions in your area.

If your institution wishes to collaborate, we would be very grateful to receive a letter of support, indicating the areas of activity in which they could intervene. If the application is approved, your organization would be recognized as a partner entity of the UNESCO Chair, which would strengthen the association's international projection and open new opportunities for academic and social cooperation.

Finally, we would be very grateful if you could send your response by November 5th.

With esteem and consideration,

Elizara Carolina Marin

Congratulations, Mauricio.

However, since I am not working at the Swiss Museum of Games anymore, I cannot speak for the museum any longer.

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Hi Ulrich, I think there's been some mistake. The museum I was referring to is where I'm currently serving as executive vice president. It's located in the state of Paraíba in Brazil.

What I was thinking was whether there might be some institution you know that could be interested in collaborating with this UNESCO chair.

Anyway, good to hear from you.

Mauricio

Hello everybody,

With this email, I'd like to draw your attention to "spielbox" magazine. It has been in existence since 1981; and since 2010, there has also been an Englisch-language edition. Nowadays, seven issues are published per year, in print and also as an e-paper.
"spielbox" has changed over the years: In addition to reviews of games, there are now more and more background reports on people dealing with games and game-playing, such as designers, illustrators, publishers, shop owners, and others. This year, readers also got information on the work of the "Spiel des Jahres" jury and on the (hi)story of the secret services in the U.S. and Britain using "Monopoly X" boards to help their imprisoned pilots escape during WWII – just to name a few examples.

In my opinion, this wide range of game-related subjects and the international distribution – from the USA to Japan and in many European countries – make "spielbox" magazine very special, if not even unique.

Nevertheless, it's not easy to keep it alive, especially since international subscriptions are not automatically renewed after 12 months. Therefore, the publishing family, Nostheide, runs a Kickstarter campaign every year around this time to secure its continued existence. So far, they have always reached their goal, that is, at least 18,000 € in new or renewed subscriptions. Well, this year's campaign will still be up for another ten days, but I'm a little worried, and for the above-mentioned reasons, I would hate to see the future of the English "spielbox" edition be jeopardized.

Therefore, on my own initiative, I've decided to simply ask around you who might want to take out a "spielbox" subscription for a year – for the print version or the e-paper or both combined. I hope you don't mind my asking, but I can actually imagine that there are members of the BGS group who are interested in such a publication.

Dear Mr. Petrenyes,

Thank you for sharing your thesis with our group.

Unfortunately, I don't have time now to comment on your "discoveries", but I wanted to at least respond to the part that directly concerns me. “Response pending” suggests that you contacted me, which doesn't seem to be the case unless I missed something and I just wanted to correct that I am not the Co-founder of the Digital Ludeme Project.

Best of luck,

Anne
