Manchester University has set up (in 2017?) this Manchester Game Studies Network

Apart from a brief mention by Eddie Duggan, I cannot see any reference to this website in our conversations.

Next Wednesday they will present a paper on ancient astragals by Ada Nifosi:

There is also the Museum of Gaming based in Preston  (about an hour North of Manchester) which includes a board games archive.  I first came across this 2 or 3 years ago but I have not seen any activity from it for a couple of years (well before Covid 19) and so I am not sure if it is still active.
