Dear friends of the BGS.
Many of you will be aware that among the oldest games that can be researched there is one, 8x8 Ashtapada, from the still enigmatig Indus Valley culture. Enigmatic for several reasons, one being that its script has so far not been understood. However, like Linear B from Crete, a very plausible solution is now being offered. Perhaps Jacob and Prof. Balambal are aware of this already, but anyway the basic information is revealed in this video, in which the person who deciphered the script is interviewed at some length, and for the first time as it seems.

Glad to be of service, Chris van de Riet.

Dear Chris,

Sorry to burst the bubble, but this is fake news. The Indus Valley script has NOT been deciphered. Yajnadevam's hypothesis is just another in a long line of politically motivated attempts to claim the Indus Valley Culture as belonging to the researcher's own cultural group. What Yajnadevam is really trying to prove is that the Indo-Aryan Migration Theory is false and that the Indus Valley Culture was in fact coterminous with Vedic culture. Neither of these views are accepted by the scholarly community, which is also why Yajnadevam self-publishes his articles without peer review and uses the number of views they get as a measure of their truth value.

Let us all please check our sources and not rely on information in hyped YouTube videos. That way madness lies.

Happy holidays to everyone,
Jacob

Well, that is disappointing, but thanks for the information, Jacob. I was somewhat surprised by the lack of scholarly comment following this and previous videos; on the other hand, his method and expertise seemed solid enough to give it the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, thanks for your reply, and happy holidays to you too. Yours, as always, Chris.
