What does "PE links 0" or "Too few PE links" mean?

Hello,

I was trying SOAPdenovo2, but could not get any meaningful contig (max contig length is only 271bp). The only clue of this meaningless assembly is the PE links from the error message.
I have two paired end fasta files and the reads match each other between the two files.

What does "PE links 0" or "Too few PE links" mean?
