There's always some poor schmuck who loses a whole wall of text...
Guys, if you're writing anything longer than a paragraph or two on a web-based application, why don't you write it locally (even Notepad would do the trick) and then paste it in when you're done?

That's what I do I save it all to Microsoft word then  copy and paste it over.

Writing somewhere else is the best idea for securing data.
Slightly better than posting threads is writing geeklists since they can be saved.
If you are using firefox the lazarus application is pretty great.

If you use firefox, do what I do.  Install Lazarus.  It's a plugin that lets you recover form data, in case you accidentally click on the back or cancel buttons, or the website goes down, or whatever.  I always install it as soon as I set up a new browser.

I write in a draft geek mail to myself (so i can embed tags) and -- save often.

That's a bit of overkill, I write in a tty session to a system in the UK from here in the US.  Even in the case of a national disaster, I only lose a few keystrokes.   I'm still not sure how to handle a global disaster however.

I can totally agree. Having been a victim of pressing wrong buttons etc., this one has saved me a massive amount of time and prevented anger in numerous circumstances. Especially, since I usually write posts that are quite long.

Yep. Lazarus is the way to go. I too had just entered a wall of text, and lost it on the maintenance. My only worry: did I install Lazarus on the PC I was using at the time? Turned out I did. The text is still all there...

Install Lazarus in your favorite browser and stop whining

Last time I lost a bunch of text and wanted to recover, Lazarus informed me that its database was corrupted and needed rebuilding. I mean, what is a man to do when even his backup is letting him down...?
