Hey all--

Kip asked me to send the following message:

*****

hey

can you mention on the old list that people need to sign up on the new list and that im pulling the plug on the old one?

the old one, since it is barebones, has no virus protection, is a spam generator, and it lets anyone on and malicious person or spambot can just get on and steal email addresses? google is making it hard for me to turn the bgbass-L list off hence the wait.

thanks

kip

Archie's email which explains how to sign up for the new list is reprinted below:

Hi gang,

Kip asked me to post this.  Somehow, Google Groups has fouled up his
owner status on this list and he can no longer access the list of users
to administer and moderate it.  It might be related to his recent rash
of email address changes (he's now
basso...@gmail.com).  Anyway,
there are no other moderators to fix it up and Google could take
(literally - it's in their docs) months to look at the problem, verify
that he is the actual owner and fix things up.

Instead, he's created a new list on Google Groups called bassfiddle-L
(email address:
bassfi...@googlegroups.com) and we'd like to invite
all of you to sign up for the new list so we can keep all of us thumpers
together.  Kip is the list owner and moderator.  I'm also a moderator,
primarily to help fix things up if he fouls things up again :-)

Ordinarily we'd just move the list of subscribers over from bgbass-l to
bassfiddle-l.  But then again, if we could get to the list of
subscribers, we wouldn't have to create a new list!

You can subscribe by sending an email to
bassfiddle-...@googlegroups.com.  It'll take it from there.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and we look forward to seeing you on the
new list!

Archie

Please take a moment to sign up for the new list so that all of us thumpers can be on the same page again!

I would like to re-subscribe but that link is not valid, even if I copy and paste.
Thanks

OK, then try going to http://groups.google.com/group/bassfiddle-L and click on "Join this group" in the upper right corner.

Do we get individual emails or do we go to the web site and read the posts there?

Either - whichever you prefer.

I get individual emails, but maybe that is what I signed up for.  I don't remember now what the options were, or if there were any options offered.

Well, whether you get digest or individual shouldn’t matter at this point. Kip killed this list and moved it to the bassfiddle-L group on Google, as Mike pointed out below.

Sending this to bgbass-l at google:

and I have both lists set to dump into the same folder in my Outlook. Is my sloth in not unsubscribing causing a problem?

No.

Turns out that since neither Kip (as list owner) nor I (as secondary
moderator) can get to the membership list on bgbass-l to delete the
list, it'll just sit here in perpetuity. The only problems are 1) some
subscribers to bgbass-l aren't subscribed to bassfiddle-l (and we can't
subscribe them because we can't get to the list of bgbass-l subscribers)
and 2) people occasionally post to the now-dead bgbass-l list instead of
on the live-and-managed bassfiddle-l list.

Should bgbass-l start getting spammed, there's no way for Kip or I to
eliminate it. You should unsub from bgbass-l yourself if it becomes a
problem.

Note - I'm still subscribed so that I can monitor for actual
list-related content and direct it to bassfiddle-l, but under the above
circumstances, I'd probably unsub myself.
