Subject: Re: Rollerbladers thought
on granite inlays
I would rate them a 1 for
beginner rollerbladers (can easily catch wheel and fall going over them)
to 7 for experienced folks (can go over with feet in a scissor position
without mishap but still requires noticing they're coming up and if distracted
by chatting or looking at the scenery and not in the right skate position, the
best rollerblader can trip and fall). Basically, for skaters they are
horrendous. I thought the point of them is to make people slow down,
which they don't necessarily do, and signs would as effective and
alot less dangerous. If the point is to mark town borders, that is
definitely a poor choice to do so. Thanks for asking my opinion on behalf
of the skating crowd!!! Susan
p.s., a fellow skater called while I was typing this and he concurred on both
ratings.

Subject: Rollerbladers thought on granite inlays
Susan,
A rail trail design question came up. On some trails there are granite inlays into the pavement that marks town borders (e.g., the Arlington / Cambridge border on the Minuteman).
On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is “rollerbladers hate the inlays” to 10 “the granite inlays is no different than asphalt to rollerbladers”, how would you rate granite inlays.
Thanks
Tom
