BFRTUC,

Fyi.  After some stutter steps, I sent out this request for proposals, last night to 5 recipients.

1)       Emily Simons (who provided the conceptual designs you’ve had a chance to review)

2)       Judy Perrin – (who volunteered to provide help from a BFRT request for help.  Full disclosure: Judy is a Board Member of the BFRT, and can not be paid for any efforts, if she is chosen)

3)       David Gerratt of DG Communications http://www.nonprofitdesign.com

4)       Tom Wilson of Tom Wilson Art, http://tomwilsonart.com/index.html

5)       Markus Lewis of Markus & Leslie, he is working on Chelmsford murals see http://web.mac.com/markusandleslie1/iWeb/Site/railtrail.html

I will share the proposals with you, and try to get input and consensus.

Best regards,

Tom

Subject: Desire Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Logo - RFP

To Invitee for Logo Request for Proposals (bcced),

Background:

I am Tom Michelman, President of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (FBFRT - www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org ).

The FBFRT has a logo which we find perfectly adequate, but now we and others want a logo specifically for the trail.

A multi-town committee has come to consensus that we would like to do something akin the logo of the Charles River Greenway (a/k/a Charles River Reservation), which uses the Blue Heron icon.  See below a 1998 symbol, and importantly a photo of a Granite Marker (which the committee found appealing) with the logo (or updated variant).  The Committee liked the simple black / white negative that would work on granite, and hopefully elsewhere.  The Committee liked the idea of a Dragon Fly or Northern River Otter, or something indigenous to the region or evokes the historical or social context of the region (the BFRT will eventually go from Lowell to Framingham).

An official Ribbon Cutting for Phase 1 of BFRT is August 29th.  We would like to have a logo prior to the Ribbon Cutting (be able to unveil the logo at the Ribbon Cutting).

So we desire the logo design with accompanying text “Bruce Freeman Rail Trail” that can be used on:

  • Granite markers and other signs (more important)
  • As part of literature (think maps / kiosks / handouts)
  • Posted on website
  • Whatever else you point out that is important.

Request for Proposals:

The work will include:

  1. Development of conceptual designs from which a logo concept will be selected.
  2. Final design of the selected logo concept.
  3. Provision of electronic versions of the logo in EPS and JPEG formats.
  4. Consultation on pavement markings for navigation through town centers.
  5. Transfer of unrestricted and exclusive rights to use the logo and related markings

The proposal should be brief (hopefully less than one page) and should provide:

    • An assumed scope of work (e.g., number of iterations you expect for the price)
    • A price to do the work.
    • A timeline to provide the logo
    • Attachments with three conceptual designs for a logo: one containing a river otter; one containing a dragon fly; and optionally one containing something else you think would be a good representation for the trail. All logos should include the "Bruce Freeman Rail Trail" text.

I am working with a Committee and a Board which I am happy to protect you from or you can meet with as you think would be most efficient.

I am putting out this request to a limited number of firms / people.  You are known to the FBFRT.  Please call or e-mail with any questions.  Proposals are due July 8th.  I look forward to your responses.

Best regards,

Tom
