BFRT Uniformity Committee,
We received two replies to the logo request. I am looking for feedback for this and the other proposal received.
My idea is to take in comments, come to a consensus via e-mail hopefully, if not in person next week. Respond to and meet with the proposer of the logo with whomever on the BFRTUC or interested parties wishes to join me.
To start the discussion, I like best the Dragonfly logos submitted by Emily Simons, and think we can work with some variant of the submission.
Submission by Tom Wilson in next e-mail
Best regards,
Tom

Rail Trail Logo - RFP
Hello Tom,
I've attached a proposal and a first round of logos based off of the concepts
we worked on before.
If you decide to go with my proposal I would appreciate it if the committee
kept a couple things in mind. The schedule is over a fairly short period of
time so in order to keep on track I need feedback as soon as you can offer it.
Also, the final logo will be based on a vector format which means it will be of
the highest resolution. The attached logos are compressed so I could fit them
in this email and may look a little fuzzy.
I will not be asking for compensation since this project is not for profit.
Let me know if you'll be needing my help.
Thank you,
Emily Simons

To Invitee for Logo Request for Proposals (bcced),
Background:
I am Tom Michelman, President of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (FBFRT - www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org ).
The FBFRT has a logo which we find perfectly adequate, but now we and others want a logo specifically for the trail.
A multi-town committee has come to consensus that we would like to do something akin the logo of the Charles River Greenway (a/k/a Charles River Reservation), which uses the Blue Heron icon. See below a 1998 symbol, and importantly a photo of a Granite Marker (which the committee found appealing) with the logo (or updated variant). The Committee liked the simple black / white negative that would work on granite, and hopefully elsewhere. The Committee liked the idea of a Dragon Fly or Northern River Otter, or something indigenous to the region or evokes the historical or social context of the region (the BFRT will eventually go from Lowell to Framingham).
An official Ribbon Cutting for Phase 1 of BFRT is August 29th. We would like to have a logo prior to the Ribbon Cutting (be able to unveil the logo at the Ribbon Cutting).
So we desire the logo design with accompanying text “Bruce Freeman Rail Trail” that can be used on:
Request for Proposals:
The work will include:
The proposal should be brief (hopefully less than one page) and should provide:
I am working with a Committee and a Board which I am happy to protect you from or you can meet with as you think would be most efficient.
I am putting out this request to a limited number of firms / people. You are known to the FBFRT. Please call or e-mail with any questions. Proposals are due July 8th. I look forward to your responses.
Best regards,
Tom

Hello Tom,
Thanks for the invite to bid on this project; I've attached 3 rough
samples-- otter, dragonfly & red-tailed hawk.
My fee would be $600 for (3) 5" x 4"l logos & printing rights (usually
don't sell exclusive rights). It would take approximately 2 weeks to
complete project...
Best,
Tom

Mr. Lynch,
I am going to go out on a limb, and say that a snail / turtle and the 26 years from concept to completion for Phase 1 only, is not the exactly what we want to evoke from a logo. J

Yeah, I got the kidding. We need some fun, and it was a good jibe.
Related, while it is great that the trail is an attraction, the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail do not condone unauthorized usage prior to completion of the BFRT. We hope to see you at the August 29th ribbon cutting celebration (see http://www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org/ribboncutting/index.html ). We will inform all if the BFRT is officially opened prior to that date.
