Example 1:
proper_part_of (myRightArm, myBody, t1)
(after amputation)
derives_from (myRightArm, myBody, t2)

Example 2:
proper_part_of(myHair#123456, myHead, t1)
(after losing the hair)
derives_from (myHair#123456, myHead, t2)

Example 3:
proper_part_of(DNAMolecule#987654, myOralMucosa, t1)
(after an oral mucosal swab )
derives_from (DNAMolecule#987654, myOralMucosa, t2)

Would you agree that the three examples demonstrate a correct use of the
derives_from relation ?

Yes, your examples are perfectly clear!  I just thought the text was unnecessarily ambiguous, and it turns out that it's a complaint that was shared by Brochhausen.
