Thank you all once again for your support for our CTSOC Kickoff meeting in Buffalo last month. One goal of CTSOC is to promote collaborations across CTSA hubs regarding development and application of ontologies. 

One goal of CTSOC is to create an environment for CTSA-related ontologies that would be analogous to the OBO Foundry, for example in that all CTSOC ontologies would satisfy the OBO Foundry principles.

has been appointed Post-Doc in the UB CTSA informatics hub to support the achievement of this goal. He will be in touch with some of you to explore ways in which he can be of assistance in contributing to this goal.

I understand the strength of unitication.

However, the OBO foundry is Open Biological and Biomedical Ontology Foundry, and the CTSA is more inclined to be clinical. There is a small gap. Perhaps you could open a subspace for all CTSOC ontologies on the OBO Foundry server?

I am happy to hear that adherence to OBO principles is adopted as a goal! The most straightforward approach would be to ask for ontologies to be submitted to the OBO group, and to pass the dashboard / community review. I hope that is the plan, rather than adopting some parallel infrastructure?

Great discussion! 

So my thought is that we will likely be working on new ontologies, and in doing so, we commit to following OBO principles. We will also likely subsequently submit these ontologies to OBO Foundry for inclusion. And of course in following OBO principles, we will be reusing OBO ontologies.

And +1 to Melissa's point that there are significant clinical ontologies already in OBO. Would add OGMS, MAXO, and DrOn as exemplars.

Hi all, we already have domains (here health) to navigate the existing ontologies, it seems to work fine for Monarch’s clinical ontologies. Perhaps if folks are not finding what they are looking for they can suggest more granular categories?
