Thefirst episode of the show starts with the idea that Jim needs to find adventure in his average life. The second time we see the speech, Jim is doing exactly that. When we hear Jim himself repeat what Blinky told him, he is on the stage auditioning for a play. He is stepping out of his comfort zone and making things happen for himself. Because he is okay with himself for that time, he is able to do more and choose other things besides the same old stuff. It connects to the first theme and relates in a really cool way through the show. Before Jim is the Trollhunter, he is a normal person living a normal life. When he goes through the journey of being the Trollhunter, he lives a life of adventure and does things he enjoys. He learns how to be demanding and do what he wants, as well as do the right thing. His character develops so much as the Trollhunter.

The third time we hear the destiny speech, it is concluding the series of Trollhunters (not to be confused with the universe of Tales of Arcadia, which includes Trollhunters, 3Below, Wizards, and Rise of the Titans). It is especially impactful here not only because it is a series finale, but also because the original voice actor for Jim Lake Jr. passed away, and they use his original voice recording of the speech over the final scene. The final episode ends with Jim and some of his team going on a quest, while some of them stay in Arcadia to protect it. They are saying goodbye as we hear the speech. This long-term division of the team is so emotional because it is a new thing, and change is always a hard thing to see. The use of the speech here is such a good choice because it is showing how far Jim has come since his finding out he was the Trollhunter. It shows the way he followed the gift of his destiny and the way he used fear to gain valor through his career. It is the perfect way to conclude the series, and it has made me cry quite a few times.

I have loves this show since it came out, and I was sad to see it end, and when i heard about his actor passing away i cried for literal HOURS because i had such an emotional attachment to this show. In United States v. Alvarez, a highly anticipated First Amendment case with a quirky fact pattern, the Court held in a vote of six to three that the Stolen Valor Act is unconstitutional. Justice Kennedy announced the opinion for a plurality of the Court (he was joined by the Chief Justice as well as Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor). Justices Breyer and Kagan concurred, suggesting that if Congress re-enacted the law with additional limitations, it might be constitutional.

Three Justices, led by Justice Alito, dissented, arguing that false statements about military medals merit no First Amendment protection whatsoever. Likening such statements to fraud, defamation, or lies to government agencies, all of which can be prohibited consistent with the First Amendment, the dissenters argued that the government should have a free hand to prosecute those who lie about having earned military honors. The dissenters recognized that false statements may be protected when laws restricting them might chill otherwise protected speech, but argued that the Stolen Valor Act does not implicate that concern because the subject matter of the lies does not relate to any protected expression.

The Stolen Valor Act makes it a crime tofalsely claim receipt of military decorations or medals andprovides an enhanced penalty if the Congressional Medal of Honor isinvolved. 18 U. S. C. 704 (b), (c). Respondent pleadedguilty to a charge of falsely claiming that he had received theMedal of Honor, but reserved his right to appeal his claim that theAct is unconstitutional. The Ninth Circuit reversed, finding theAct invalid under the First Amendment.

Even when considering some instances ofdefamation or fraud, the Court has instructed that falsity alonemay not suffice to bring the speech outside the First Amendment;the statement must be a knowing and reckless falsehood. See NewYork Times v. Sullivan, 376 U.S.254, 280. Here, the Government seeks to convert a rule thatlimits liability even in defamation cases where the law permitsrecovery for tortious wrongs into a rule that expands liability ina different, far greater realm of discourse and expression.

Kennedy, J., announced the judgment of theCourt and delivered an opinion, in which Roberts, C. J., andGinsburg and Sotomayor, JJ., joined. Breyer, J., filed an opinionconcurring in the judgment, in which Kagan, J., joined. Alito, J.,filed a dissenting opinion, in which Scalia and Thomas, JJ.,joined.

To a person, each of these honorees acted without regard for their own safety. They stood up to dangerous individuals brandishing assault rifles, handguns, and knives. One officer sustained multiple stab wounds while fighting off an assailant. Another endured first-degree burns to his arms and face while pulling an unconscious driver from a burning car on a freeway.

Each of them will tell you, very humbly, the same thing -- they were just doing their jobs. They were doing what they had to do, what they were trained to do, like on any other day. The officer who suffered those terrible burns -- he left urgent care and went straight to work. He had to finish his shift. That sense of duty and purpose is what these Americans embody.

We're going to keep pushing Congress to move forward [in] a bipartisan way to make our criminal justice system fairer and smarter and more cost-effective, and enhance public safety and ensure the men and women in this room have the ability to enforce the law and keep their communities safe.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Mario Gutierrez. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Mario Gutierrez, Miami-Dade Police Department, Florida, for bravery and composure while enduring a violent attack. Officer Gutierrez sustained multiple stab wounds while subduing a knife-wielding assailant who attempted to set off a massive gas explosion that could have resulted in multiple fatalities.

MILITARY AIDE: Patrolman Lewis Cioci. Medal of Valor presented to Patrolmen Lewis Ciochi, Johnson City Police Department, New York, for courageously resolving a volatile encounter with a gunman. After witnessing the murder of his fellow officer, Patrolman Cioci pursued and apprehended the gunman at a crowded hospital, thereby saving the lives of employees, patients, and visitors.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Jason Salas, Officer Robert Sparks, and Captain Raymond Bottenfield. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Jason Salas, Officer Robert Sparks, and Captain Raymond Bottenfield, Santa Monica Police Department, California, for courage and composure in ending a deadly rampage. Officer Salas, Officer Sparks, and Captain Bottenfield placed themselves in mortal danger to save the lives of students and staff during a school shooting on the busy campus of Santa Monica College.

MILITARY AIDE: Major David Huff. Medal of Valor presented to Major David Huff, Midwest City Police Department, Oklahoma, for uncommon poise in resolving a dangerous hostage situation. Major Huff saved the life of a two-year-old girl after negotiations deteriorated with a man holding the child captive at knifepoint.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Donald Thompson. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Donald Thompson, Los Angeles Police Department, California, for courageous action to save an accident victim. While off duty, Officer Thompson traversed two freeway dividers and endured first- and second-degree burns while pulling an unconscious man to safety from a car moments before it became engulfed in flames.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Coral Walker. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Coral Walker, Omaha Police Department, Nebraska, for taking brave and decisive action to subdue an active shooter. After exchanging gunfire, Officer Walker singlehandedly incapacitated a man who had killed an injured multiple victims on a shooting spree.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Gregory Stevens. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Gregory Stevens, Garland Police Department, Texas, for demonstrating extraordinary courage to save lives. Officer Stevens exchanged gunfire at close range and subdued two heavily armed assailants, preventing a deadly act of terrorism.

MILITARY AIDE: Officer Niel Johnson. Medal of Valor presented to Officer Niel Johnson, North Miami Police Department, Florida, for swift and valorous action to end a violent crime spree. Officer Johnson pursued a man who had shot a Miami police officer and two other innocent bystanders, withstanding fire from an assault weapon and apprehended the assailant.

MILITARY AIDE: Special Agent Tyler Call. Medal of Valor presented to Special Agent Tyler Call, Federal Bureau of Investigation, for his heroic actions to save a hostage. Special Agent Cull, who was off duty with his family, helped rescue a woman from her ex-husband, who had violated a restraining order and held the victim at gunpoint.

Be Ye Men of Valour was a wartime speech made in a BBC broadcast on 19 May 1940 by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Winston Churchill. It was his first speech to the nation as Prime Minister, and came nine days after his appointment, during the Battle of France in the second year of World War II. The speech concludes with a quotation from the Apocrypha, which supplies the phrase by which the speech became known:

Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar. As the Will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be.

On June 28 2012, a divided U.S. Supreme Court, in United States v. Alvarez, struck down as unconstitutional a federal law that criminalizes lying about being awarded military decorations or medals and imposes an enhanced penalty for lies involving a Congressional Medal of Honor. The case involved a California man, Xavier Alvarez, whose conviction for lying about being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor was overturned on appeal.
