to Beyond Budgeting Implementors
Hi Fazz,

I hope you are enjoying Singapore. It would be great if we can get
some members there as well. Let me know if and when I need to talk to
people. So you are at a six sigma conference. Did you get an
opportunity to read a recent BBRT INSIGHTS paper "Why you should be
skeptical about the value of six sigma"? The abstract reads:

Abstract: Six Sigma is the latest (and to many the greatest) business
improvement program around today. GE and the consulting industry swear
by it. While the theory of Six Sigma is grounded in statistical
process control (and that’s been around for 80 years!) its practical
implementation causes real problems. An excessive focus on highly
trained and expensive internal or external consultants (sometimes
known as ‘black belts’) and a toolkit of techniques are a few
examples. This paper looks at the pros and cons of Six Sigma and
suggests that firms should approach it with some scepticism.

It would be interesting to hear your comments in relation to what you
have heard at the conference.
