Position Summary:The USF Tampa Library invites applications for the position of
Digital
Scholarship and Publishing Librarian. Building on the current
program in open-access publishing, digital scholarship, and data
management, this position will coordinate scholarly communications
activities across the campus and help guide the campus toward innovative
and sustainable methods of dissemination and preservation of the
university's scholarly output. The successful candidate will oversee and
expand Scholar Commons, the institutional repository; collaborate with
the Coordinator for Serials in managing the open-access publishing
program; and have supporting roles in promoting both the open-access
textbook initiative and data management services. This is a key
leadership role that will advocate broadly for open access initiatives
and the library's central role in expanding the impact of the
research and creative activities of our students and faculty.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor developments in scholarly communication, open access, institutional repositories, and related legislative
initiatives.
- Manage the digital scholarship and publishing program's daily operations relating to Scholar Commons.
- In
collaboration with liaison librarians, implement strategies to recruit faculty work for the repository.
- Advocate and educate
relevant audiences about scholarly communication issues.
- Engage with the campus community to determine digital scholarship research
needs and implement tools and technologies that support those needs (e.g., ORCID, VIVO, Symplectic Elements).
- Develop strategies to
sustain and expand the suite of digital scholarship and publishing services.
- Directly supervise and mentor 1.5 FTE
staff.
- Utilize knowledge of new emerging technologies in the area of digital scholarship, as well as relevant standards and best
practices to further enhance the Libraries' role in digital scholarship.
- Participate on the Academic Resources unit's leadership
council.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's
degree from an accredited institution in library science and
appropriate experience as a professional librarian consistent with
university guidelines. Evidence of professional growth through
publication, association activities, or other contributions to the
field. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of
Assistant Librarian.
Preferred Qualifications:- Supervisory experience.
- Experience consulting with
faculty, students or researchers on copyright/fair use as needed for digital publishing and data management.
- Demonstrated ability to
assess services and collections.
- Familiarity with an institutional repository platform such as Fedora, DSpace, Digital Commons, or
OJS.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current issues in scholarly communications, including data management, library publishing, and
digital scholarship.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse clientele (internal and external) to build
professional relationships.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
- Evidence of the ability to engage in
scholarship and/or creative achievements as required for promotion.
Position Information: Salary and rank
commensurate with experience, minimum $45,000. Appointment date negotiable
