From the article by Associated Press. Dr Zahi Hawass reports that
after excavating for three years the tunnel in the tomb of Seti I has
been excavated. The tomb leads downwards approximately 570 feet and
ends in an unfinished tomb chamber which he speculates may have been
the planned secret burial chamber for Seti. It is unknown whether the
chamber was not completed due to the death of the Pharaoh or for other
reasons. Previous attempts to excavate the tunnel had not succeeded
due to poor air in the tunnel and the dangerous conditions of the
tunnel itself. There had been rumours for centuries that a tunnel from
the tomb of Seti actually led to an opening very close to the temple
of Hatshepsut but now this rumour has been proven false.
