An article in the latest Archeology Magazine disputes the possible
serious effects of the results shown in King Tutankhamun's DNA
results. The artcle points out that latest report lists Tut's cleft
palate as one of the findings. One thing that had already been found
in the ct scan done earlier and was declared to not be significant or
severe. The writer goes on to say that the club foot discovery may or
may not have caused the boy King pain and clearly is indicated by the
over 100 walking sticks found in the Pharaohs tomb. According to some
medical experts, it would not have prevented him from driving a
chariot or going into battle. The effects of the genetic bone disease
Tut suffered is less clear as is the malaria. Indication's are that
Tut suffered from several forms of malaria and may have already built
up a slight immunity to the disease which was common in ancient
Egyptians. My interesting side notes are that the mother of the two
still born foetuses buried with Tut appears to have been found but the
issue of identification is less clear as the mummy was unwrapped and
robbed in antiquity. Confirmation of whether that mummy is in fact
Ankhesenamun may hinge on the discovery of Nefertiti herself who will
hopefully come to light as the SCA completes the testing of all the
mummies found buried in the Valley of the Kings and Queens. Also
missing from the DNa results and likely to stay that way is the
actually cultural heritage of Tutankhamun and the other mummies
tested. Were they full blood Egyptian, part Nubian or even descended
from Hyksos raiders. With the SCA and Zahi Hawass always vehemently
stating that all of the royal families of the 18th dynasty were full
Egyptian a result any different would be an embarrassment and possibly
cause some political turmoil if they were found to be Nubian.
