The campaign, launched in support of UNGA79’s Summit of the Future and the #PactForTheFuture, is a five-year initiative driven by a coalition of 18 international organizations. Its mission is to work towards establishing a compulsory curriculum that integrates peace studies and digital literacy from kindergarten through K-12 and beyond. The Light Millennium Global believes this foundational approach is essential for bridging profound inequalities, including gender, economic, and digital divides.
The event will be chaired by Mr. Rodrigo A. Carazo, a member of the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva and former Ambassador of Costa Rica to the UN (2018-2022). Mr. Carazo will be joined by fellow distinguished speakers, including:
Ambassador Mr. Ramu Damodaran, the First Chief of the UN Academic Impact Initiative (2010-2021), and Permanent Observer for the University for Peace to the UN, Opening Remarks.
Mr. Bruce Fein, Attorney at Law, Expert in the U.S. Constitution & Author. Opening Remarks.
H.E. Mr. Stan Oduma Smith, Ambassador, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the United Nations, New York, 2022 – present. Keynote Address.
H.E. Mr. Teburoro Tito, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kiribati to the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the Kiribati Ambassador to the United States, and Non-Resident High Commissioner to Canada. Keynote Address.
“To forge a world of peace, security, equality, and sustainability, we must implement a compulsory Peace and ICT education curriculum,” said Bircan Ünver, founder of The Light Millennium Global. “Our vision is directly aligned with the core tenets of democracy: fostering empathy, respect for human rights, and the dignity of every individual.”
The campaign’s urgency is underscored by this year’s International Day of Democracy (September 15) theme, “Ensuring effective governance of AI at all levels.” The Light Millennium Global asserts that ICT, including AI, must be harnessed for good, and a universal education system is the only way to equip future generations to navigate the digital world safely and ethically.
Investing in this educational model is a powerful act of proactive governance. It can serve as the backbone of a new global strategy, creating a generation of global citizens empowered to combat hatred, misinformation, and online abuses. The campaign envisions this approach as a long-term investment in humanity, providing a pathway to true freedom, equality, and democracy.
The ultimate aim of the campaign is to have this vision brought to the UN General Assembly for universal adoption, with a goal of achieving a more democratic, free, and just world for all by 2045, the UN’s 100th anniversary.
