Hi Bark Park "Family"

Alan wanted to share our sad news with those who might still remember our dog Blake.

Blake had just celebrated his 11th birthday on May 4th. He was not ill and not showing any signs of even aging yet. But two months ago he lunged at our neighbor's grandchildren who were approaching him from across the street. He and Shelby were tied to a trash can while Alan was working in the garage. Because he can't be trusted around young children, as soon as Alan heard them approaching he pulled back on the leash since he said he had gotten within 100 feet of them. So Blake injured his neck severely in the process of pulling himself along with the 30 lb. trash can with resistance from Shelby attached too.

We started taking him to a chiropractic vet in Noblesville. They saw him for 6 weeks and he received 5 treatments. Unfortunately he never relaxed enough for the treatments to help much; the pain never left him and he was clearly miserable for a very long time. Memorial weekend was very difficult because he had many episodes where he yelped and panted for many hours straight. That's when we had to make the horrible decision that we couldn't let him suffer any longer.

Here's our post from Facebook on Tuesday, May 31st:

Suffering no more! RIP our fiercely protective beloved dog Blake of nearly 10 years. You have changed our lives forever. And I'm sure you will be watching over us now in heaven.

Terry, and Alan,

That is very sad news.  I am sorry to hear about Blake.  It is like losing a member of the family.  I hope Shelby is doing well.

Erika and I (Gizmo’s parents) remember Blake very well.  Once in a while when some of us bark park  ‘old timers’ see each other we will talk about the dogs that we don’t see around anymore.  So, we still talk about Blake and Shelby once in a while.  There are not a lot of people using the bark park google group anymore, but there will be a few other people that will see this that knew Blake.   Thanks for letting us know.

Eric, and Erika
