Hi again everyone,

As I mentioned at Christmas party, the newly minted young adults' ministry (YAM) is organising a food trail as our first informal event of the year. We'll be splitting pple into groups of 5-6 who'll be given clues to visit different hawker centres, each with a themed challenge involving lots of eating and food photography :) It will be a competition, so everyone will gather back again at the end of the trail to count points and the winners will get mystery prizes.

To give a bit more of a background to this event and YAM as a whole, essentially the point of this ministry is to provide a place for people 18 to pre-family to meet up and encourage one another as a body of believers. I think it's fair to say that the community needs of people in this stage of life are not currently met with CCMC's existing mens' and womens' fellowships, which has already resulted in a generation gap between young parents and the oldest youth who've graduated from OC (~24?). Two specific needs are for a more contemporary worship environment to serve as a bridge between OC and main service, and for informal mentorship for people at the cusp or beginning of their working life.

So generally, the people we'll be targeting are OC graduates, people at uni/poly (locally or overseas) and young working adults. The focus this year will really be on building up a community, getting people back in who perhaps may have drifted away slightly from church in general or CCMC, and letting people overseas know that a church community relevant for them is waiting for them when they return. So if you know anyone else who may fit this demographic, do also invite them to join us.

Finally, I know our group is strictly speaking no longer a 'young adults' group, but I do think it's important for those of us who can relate to the younger young adults to participate in this ministry for the benefit of our church at large, and also for those of us who have children, who in the not too distant future will also become young adults. So, basically this includes all of us ;) So please, everyone, consider this an open invitation to meet new people, pig out and have fun!

It's on 11 Jan (Sat), starting at 10.30am and will end around 5pm. I should also mention that for better bonding, this event will be car-free- only public transport. Hope to see you all there! Will also post up details on facebook.

James
