I’ve been seeing more discussions about blockchain being used in healthcare, especially when it comes to storing medical records. Some people say it could make patient data much safer, but I’m not exactly sure how that would work in practice. Can blockchain really improve the security of medical records, or is it still more of a theoretical idea?

From what I’ve learned over the years working around digital systems and data management, blockchain can actually help solve some long-standing issues with medical records. Traditional databases are usually centralized, which means if that system is compromised, a lot of sensitive information can be exposed. Blockchain works differently because records are distributed and protected with cryptographic verification, making unauthorized changes much harder.
I recently read a detailed explanation about how blockchain is applied in healthcare systems, which gives a clear overview of how the technology can be used to protect patient data and improve transparency: https://weelorum.com/blog/blockchain-in-healthcare-how-the-technology-is-applied/. It also mentions how patients could potentially have more control over who accesses their information. In my opinion, the technology still needs careful implementation, but the concept itself makes a lot of sense for improving data security in healthcare.
