Hi all,

Mozilla just approved my latest update to Better Gmail 2, version
0.9.4. This is a minor fix-it update. Specifically, it fixes 2 the
problem with Amazon links noted here:

http://groups.google.com/group/better-gmail-2-firefox-extension/browse_thread/thread/d59f9fa237f0b489

Also, this version no longer includes Winston's excellent Unread
Summary by Sender script. Unfortunately that script makes your
contacts unclickable when it's compiled into the add-on. The
standalone script with Greasemonkey, however, does work, so if you
really miss it you can install it that way. My apologies for that--the
script uses a newer Greasemonkey parameter that my add-on does not,
and for reasons I wasn't able to track down, my manual workaround
rendered Contacts unusable.

Let me know if you have any troubles or questions. Get the latest update here:

Best,
Gina

Hi Gina,
I know correlation doesn't equal causation, but...

Firefox updated Better GMail 2, and now my PermaTabs Mod isn't working
any more.

I only ask because I learned about PTM from you on TWiG, and you said
that it worked together with Faviconize Tab and Better Gmail2...

Just thought I'd check.

Can you give me more information about how/what's not working? What's
happening specifically?

Hi Gina,
I am double embarrassed. First, I obviously should have given you more
information (I don't do this very often is my only excuse).

Second, when I went to the PTM site I saw that someone else had a
problem and just had to uninstall and reinstall the add-on. That
worked for me. I should have done that before I said anything anyway.

So: I'm not sure if there's a connection between the BetterGmail2
upgrade and my experience, though it seemed to happen right after the
GB2 update. But just in case, here's the answer to your questions.
(Again, it seems to be working again, so this is just FYI, just in
case).

I'm using Windows 9 (Build 7100) and Firefox 3.5.3.

The symptoms:
1) the PermaTabs that I had in place disappeared (I had 4 that were
always there when I would open Firefox; they disappeared.)

2) The submenu that appeared in the context menu (the one that pops up
when right-clicking the tab) was gone completely.

3) PTM was still listed in my add-ons, and its Options menu was
available from Firefox's Tools menu. I experimented with checking/
unchecking various boxes, but I couldn't find any way to tell it to
make a tab permanent.

It's probably coincidence... and if so, sorry for cluttering your box.

On an unrelated note, I've been cutting back on the podcasts I listen
to--they just take too much time right now--but one of 3 I'm still
following is TWiG, largely because of you.

Best,
Greg

No problem, I'm glad it's working for you now. I'll keep an eye out
for future similar bug reports. And thanks for listening to TWiG!

Hi Gina,

Better Gmail2 always seems to play tricks with my Google Toolbar for
Firefox, specifically, the "send To" feature.

After installing the last few updates, the first time I try to use
"send to," the dialog box opens up with my GMAIL inbox page rather
than the URL within an email box. Note that this only happens with the
first "send to." I close the box and hit "send to" again, and I get a
proper email box. However, I am left with drafts in my draft folder.

When I uninstall Better Gmail 2, it works again. Have you encountered
this issue before? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all
addons and even created a new profile, and it was working fine, until
installing thew new update.

Cheers,

Richard

Hmm, I don't use the Google toolbar so I haven't seen this myself.
Often these types of things are an issue with a specific user script.
Would you mind enabling the add-on, but unchecking all the features
and seeing if you can reproduce this? If not, enable one feature, then
try again--and repeat till the problem happens again? This will help
us narrow down which script is the culprit.

Thanks!

OK, I will try. FYI here are the scripts I am using (not all in Better Gmail):

Hide Gmail Chat; Unread Labels; Gmail without ads; Folders4Gmail; Inbox count display; Native OS attachments; add row highlights; hide invites.

Thanks,

Richard

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Google toolbar, with same result.

Too frustrating, so I will use Better Gmail2 and try the "Gmail This" add-on.

Thanks!

When you enabled Better Gmail 2 but unchecked all its options, did the
problem still happen?

yes, I also tried uninstalling it and it kept happening.

So as far as I can tell, this problem seems to be triggered by the add-on, but once it happens, the problem remains.

I should also note that this occurs on both my home and office computers.

Gmail this! seems to work well for my purposes so far. I would prefer to use this add-on so I can keep using Better Gmail2, because it has nice features.

Thanks for your replies.

Richard
