Just wanted to ask, if folks were interested in playing this year, or if things are suspended until next year?

Speaking for just myself, I don't plan on playing until we can do so normally - spacing, etc. While I don't think that time will be anytime in the next several weeks, there are too many unknowns for me to make a definitive decision for the remainder of the year either way. I'm just waiting and seeing.

Sadly many pickup games are entirely cancelled or membership has declined considerably.

KeyWees and Pikesville are active, Columbia and Anne Arundel inactive as an example.

In the active games several players tried playing with a mask (dangerous especially with high-dew levels) until it became obviously uncomfortable exposing themselves to hypoxia and hypercarbia, the masks quickly came off.  We have one player that wears a face shield instead (at least he can breathe).

Obviously this is not about the science but rather about compliance. Wearing a mask is like putting a chain link fence up to protect against mosquitoes. (NIH and CDC confirm this fact) And of course no one including you properly wears PPE, especially over extended period of times.  Long term use of PPE is ineffective even if you have an N95. But that is the science not related to compliance.

While COVID-19 is as real as the flu, COVID-1984 is a lot more virulent which will ultimately lead to a heavy psychological decay in our society especially with our children.  I personally never put my children in a position of having to wear a mask and they will not be returning to school forced to be muzzled. Yep, I just became a home schooler.

You may have heard the phrase "The cake is a lie", well now the modern version of that famous phrase is, "The masks are a lie".

Feel free to socially distance, wear a mask, gloves and goggles because everyone knows Disc Craft is dangerous very dangerous. In fact if I were you I'd stay home too.

However, If you are interested in playing Ultimate there are a limited number of active options., If you are aching to huck and catch I'd make myself available and I'll try drag a few others along too, otherwise join us in MD for games of 5 on 5 with a few in reserve.

I respect your opinion and would like to offer one of my own.

A mask is more like a dam against a river, some water gets by, but it's a lot less.  COVID survives in water droplets in the air and that is how it spreads so easily.  A mask blocks water droplets from coming out as easily and thus helps reduce the spread of COVID.

Anecdotal evidence sees countries, such as those in Asia (Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, intentionally leaving out China in case you don't trust them) have performed significantly better than non-mask wearing countries (Sweden, UK, US, Iran).

"Overall, an evidence review (29) finds "moderate certainty evidence shows that the use of handwashing plus masks probably reduces the spread of respiratory viruses."

I can see the point about being muzzled, it is uncomfortable to wear a mask while out and about.  But if I need to be muzzled so that I don't endanger other people, then I am willing to do that.  This is similar to me not drinking and driving.

Everyone here is mature enough to make their own decisions.  I just hope that if you do choose to play ultimate, that you also choose to err on the side of caution in all your other activities to help reduce the spread of COVID.

So we have been playing in Petworth under modified rules...
1. Everyone wears a mask during game play. People, will some times
pull down the mask on the sidelines or in between points when they are
6ft or more away from everybody, but everyone keeps it up during game
play, and we've played in 95+ heat and no one has gotten hypoxia and
hypercarbia. So, that's basically an excuse at this point.

2. We observe social distancing as best as possible. Marks are more
than 6 ft apart, zone is forbidden, and most importantly, floating
hucks that are contestable are considered instant turns.

Yes it helps the offense and yes its a slightly less competitive game,
but most people don't seem to mind.

I also know VA Highlands has started back up in a more competitive,
less caring about Covid fashion, but for that reason, I know I wont be
going there.

Not sure where the resources on chain link fences and mosquitoes can be found, but...

Do you mean man defense is not allowed and that this helps the defense? Seems a bit confusing.

Defense is generally allowed, but people are a little less physical
(aka there is no hand chucking or position jostling). In general, not
marking closely helps the offense, and not having as many deep hucks
make handlers smarter with the disk.

Hey all,

I know I hadn't been out in forever even before COVID hit, but hope everyone is well.

Wanted to make sure this was seen- MoCo is opening field reservations as of September 1st for low/medium risk sports - Ultimate counts as a "medium-risk" sport. Not saying everything should suddenly go back to normal (or here to debate anything related to that)- but the fields could be officially booked then if anyone is regularly playing.

Hi All,

I'd consider it, however only if everyone agreed to wear masks the
whole time and if some common sense rules were adapted that have been
adapted elsewhere, such as floaties/contested hucks are automatic
turns, and marking be done 6 ft away.
