We have recently come together as a Community Mending/Repair Group to share knowledge and other resources for fixing things that might otherwise go to waste. We recognize that the practice of repairing items is economical, and it increases accessibility. We gather monthly with our own individual projects. Meetings include a Feature Focus - a demonstration from someone who has a particular skill that they’re willing to share. After, as we move on to our own work, we discuss ways to grow our ideas for this group. In these early stages, topics include establishing the most suitable place or places to meet, the time of day or night that’s likely to work for as many people as possible, and the ongoing effort to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds. People like you!

In our first meeting, pants were hemmed and socks were darned. In the January meeting, shoes were put back in service, and kitchen knives were sharpened. We decided to take advantage of the offers that we’ve had to get the word out through larger e-mailing lists. We also decided to stay with our current meeting place, so that date will be out as soon as we get confirmation from Will at BHS.
February 13 Feature Focus: Repairing snowshoes, nordic ski bindings and poles. Join us from 5-6 30 in the Reading Room at Bethel Historical Society, on Friday, February 13. Bring your own project (any thing you’d like to fix - it doesn’t have to be the Feature Focus) and a few dollars to put into the BHS donation box. As always, if you have a friend that may be interested, bring them along too!
