Beili is one of my best friends since 13!!! We were buddies in high school!
She is amazing! If you think that I am smart, I can confess now that I felt
not so smart when she is around :)
It took her long time to decide to be an artist, although she is so gifted.
Her gifts have been recognized by one organization after another around the
world now! (art farm in Nebraska, wood side art residency, Finland,
Michigan....)
When you are there, please make sure also say hi to Abby for me! Tell her
also that you are a friend of mine! She is the program director for the
center and show!
She and her husband Steve are my very dear friends also!
Beili, Abby, and Wei are all from Yucai high school of Shenzhen. I
contributed to the happening of this show innocently by bravely connecting

How are you? Miss you all!
Lately I have been really busy preparing a major exhibition at Chinese
Culture Center of San Francisco. My dear friends, you got to come and see it
if you are in town. This exhibit, "Lure/鼻" really marks a milestone not
just for myself, but also for the organization. As it is the first time the
Center ever features a large scale, contemporary installation art. The
exceptional artist Beili Liu, is the first artist featured in Center's Xin
Rui (New and Sharp) exhibition series, which I developed to promote
outstanding Chinese American artist who is under recognized or unrecognized
in United States. I am also very proud to say that I successfully brought a
co-presenter from Silicon Valley to provide the funding support for the
show.?
However, I must admit that it is rather challenging when promoting this
contemporary art to non-Chinese audience, given the Center's focus on
traditional art and folk art in the past. I have been tirelessly calling and
emailing (cold and warm) and the results are coming: we received several
strong endorsements, including Jay Xu, the director of Asian Art Museum,
Artist Flo Oy Wong and quite a few others. An art critic is writing about it
for KQED and we are expecting more. This exhibition is also the official
selection of 2008 San Francisco International Arts Festival and 11th Annual
United States of Asian America Festival.?
To me, Beili Liu no doubt is one of the most important and under-recognized
Chinese American installation artist today. I am so proud to introduce her
solo debut at Chinese Culture Center, I am hoping this exhibition will help
her gaining the exposure she truly deserves!
All the Yucai Alumni, where are you all hiding? Beili is one of us, let's
all come out to congratulate and support her! She has completely transformed
the gallery, her works are stunningly beautiful.?
The exhibit opens on May 9th, 2008 at 6:00 PM, there will be live improv
dancing inspired by Lure, should be great. We are expecting a great turn
out.?
