Hello All!

Niki notified me last night that she will no longer be instructing us, effective immediately, ergo, no class tomorrow. Her work and dance lesson schedule will no longer allow her to continue with us. She has offered to make inquiries with other instructors she knows in the world of dance.

In response to her efforts, I've been contacted by Donna Frankel who has taught American style ballroom for several years in our area of the West Bay. She has invited us to register for her ballroom dance class commencing tonight at Foot Hill College. For more information, please contact her via do...@dancingcruises.com.

An option which I am considering is transplanting to the Lucy Stern Wednesday eve. dance venue. A few months ago, Susan and I attended after  Niki canceled our BA class on short notice. The former is well attended,  the cost was $10.00 for the evening and lessons begin at 6:45P. Currently, salsa is the offering.

Meanwhile, I remain receptive to revitalizing our Beth Am venue with a new instructor(s) and additional promotion. However, I am skeptical that we will sustain our activity at Beth Am.

Thoughtfully,
Ken

We could ask the Oshman Family JCC Fitness Center  or the Stevens House (Palo Alto senior home) if either of them would sponsor a ballroom dancing class for seniors.  Bob and I often ask the JCC to form a class, and at one time the Stevens House was considering Bill Carr for a class that would be open to seniors.

Thank you Ken. My long time friend, Phil Mast, teaches the Lucie
Stern Wed. class (we have co-taught several classes over the past 20+
years) and he does a fine job. You seem to have a small number of
people on a drop-in basis which makes it hard for a teacher to commit
to-as most of us, myself included, currently teach nearly every night
of the week and count on our classes as our paying jobs. Drop-in
makes it very difficult. Here are the classes I know about that are
good quality and low cost.

Tuesday: Foothill College, $31 plus student fees, 6:30-9:30pm for
12-week series. A real bargain-even with an awful reg process (thank
you State of CA) and additional student fees plus $3 per time parking
fee. 2 dances per evening: Meringue, Waltz, Cha Cha, East Coast
Swing, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Night Club Two Step and Salsa.
Intermediate and adv. also have instruction and practice in Viennese
Waltz, West Coast Swing, Bolero, Quick Step, Samba, Hustle, Bachata,
etc. Instructor: Donna Frankel (feel free to send interested students
to the lengthy email written to this group this morning.) 12345 El
Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills. Contact instructor for add code ASAP:
do...@dancingcruises.com or 408-257-3455.
Wednesday: Lucie Stern’s-$10 6:45-9:45pm instruction (beginner’s
class first hour, intermediate 7:45-8:30pm) and practice, all the
above dances rotating basis. Phil Mast Instructor.

Friday: Friday Night Waltz-it isn’t every Friday night but most, price
is $12 for dance and classes. $10 for dance only from 9 pm to
midnight. $10 for students. 7:30-midnight. Teachers rotate-I have
taught here, too-and it certainly isn’t always waltz, but often
Vintage dance instruction the first 1.5 hours. Heavily Stanford
crowd, beautiful dance floor. First United Methodist Church of, Palo
Alto-free parking in back.

Friday: The Pavilion $9-$12 per evening, $5-$8 if under 25. Samy &
Judy 8-9:30 pm lesson-a single dance each evening-rotated throughout
year, open dancing party 9:30-midnight. 4000 Middlefield Rd, Palo
Alto.

Saturday: The Pavilion $9-$12 per evening, $5-$8 if under 25. Phil
Mast and Friends 8-9:30 pm lesson-a single dance each evening-rotated
throughout year, open dancing party 9:30-midnight. 4000 Middlefield
Rd, Palo Alto.

Sunday: El Camino YMCA $15 for the day (use pool, locker rooms, gyms,
weight room, take all classes from Yoga/Pilates/Zumba/Dance/ etc.
6am-10pm.) 3-5pm ballroom dance some individual
coaching-lesson-students decide what 2 dances to learn-plus a party
mixer thrown in. Last Sunday of month is a free tea dance, open to
public-ladies need a partner or you will sit out too much. 2400 Grant
Rd, Mountain View-across from El Camino Hospital.

The Boulevard-aka Dance Boulevard: 1824 Hillsdale, San Jose at
Camden/ Hillsdale split across street from Target. # 408-264-9393
Friday and Sat. nights starting at 8:00 PM; cost is $10-12.

Starlight Ballroom- 5178 Moorpark Ave #60, San Jose, CA 95129 (at
Saratoga Ave.) (408) 252-7000.
For better formatting-see attachments. My ballroom/Social dance class
had a summer field trip to Menlo Park where I taught Klezmer dances.
On the bottom I listed alternate field trips-where I got the above
list.

Hope this helps! Everyone should learn to dance-the healthiest thing
I know to keep you physically, mentally, emotionally and socially
happy-plus your chances of Alzheimer's are reduced nearly 50% if you
dance twice a week!

Sandy, Hi!

Thanks for your suggestions. Do you have names of people at either setting with whom I can inquire? Have you had any recent contact with the JCC or Stevens House re: current interest in a ballroom class for seniors?

Not sure why I don't see my emails here in your group-but last day to
join my Tues. night ballroom class is coming up. We have 21 people
ages 18-76, 3 adv. dancers, 8 intermediates the rest are beginners.
We finished Meringue and reviewed basic waltz tonight-our second
class. The intermediate and adv. dancers learned basic Viennese Waltz
and 3 more variations. We would love to have you-but the class is on
Tuesdays and costs $31, plus Foothill College student fees-meaning
your 12 weeks of 3 hour classes cost about $80. Many take it for no
grade.
I can give you an add code-contact me: do...@dancingcruises.com or
408-257-3455.
Thank you,
Donna Frankel

Good ideas, Sandy:-)   And there's also Avenidas, which is going to be residing at Cubberley a while - until their downtown building has been remodeled big-time.
Hugs,
Jim
