Hi Gang,

Since we haven't been doing anything together lately that's as good as the way things were when we had Bill to teach us, I thought we might try attending some local opportunities as a group.
So here are some activities that look promising (it's good idea to check the pages before going, in case of schedule changes).

In the First United Methodist church (FUM) on Hamilton, P.A., Friday Night Waltz (FNW) is about a lot more than waltzes.
Hope some of you can come THIS EVENING (4/12) for the two levels of Argentine Tango lessons plus dance party.

P.A. Contra Dance usually meets in the same ballroom on the 2nd, 4th & 5th Saturdays most months, with *LIVE MUSIC* and optional potluck snacks:
Come early your first time to get a Contra primer before the dance party.

I like contra dance, but just can't make either of the two Saturday dances this month.
On the other hand, I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to the big, special party on Friday 4/19, the combined "ContraWaltz" night, which is listed on both of the above web sites.
It includes several dance lesson options -- see the FNW page for the most complete details.

Monthly Vintage Dance on 3rd Sundays of the month in P.A. -- Foxtrot, Tango, etc. the way they were danced a hundred years ago,:
The organizers give lessons before some of the dances, and are always giving pointers all afternoon.
Gillian Smith runs a meetup group for this at
I just sent her a reminder that this page still gives last year's schedule.
(I get to only a few of these, myself, because Sundays are so busy.)

PEERS organizes monthly "period" dances in Alameda, plus related classes and other activities:

Go to Tango Mango to see the HUGE number of Argentine Tango activities in our area:
Start with some beginner drop-in classes.
I've been attending Ed & Nora's Thursday night beginners' lesson, at Congregation Etz Chayim on Alma just north of San Antonio:

Best Salsa is on Tuesday nights at Albertos.  Their great instructor (Pantea) starts teaching at 7:30
Since I'm now an intermediate, I go in at about 8:10 -- that's when she starts two lessons of new material, after she's covered the boilerplate basics she goes through every week.
I go most Tuesdays, although this coming week 4/16 I may not get back from my Opera SJ commitment in time.
She also teaches Thursdays (a bit more crowded) and Fridays (starts an hour later, much more crowded, not worth it).

Also, consider the Stanford Hospital Atrium concerts, every Wednesday and Friday at 12:30.
Many of them feature dance-able music, esp. swing.  April's concerts are listed here:
On or about the 1st of each month, update this link by changing -4- to -5- and so on ( if you get "page not found" it means try again later; they're sometimes slow to post the new schedule online).
I'm hiking this morning (4/12), but will try to catch the last half hour or so of the Black Olive Jazz band.

What do you think?
Any takers for tonight's double-dose Tango class and Friday Night Waltz party?

Jim

Thank you for keeping me on your list.  For those with Tues. evenings free, my ballroom dance class at Foothill College from 6:30-9pm covers American style Meringue, Waltz, EC. swing, Cha cha, Rumba, Tango, Foxtrot, Salsa-Cumbia and Night club two step, with in addition Bolero, WC swing, Samba and Viennese Waltz for more advanced students in the 12 week course.  We have a class field trip to dance on the largest dance floor in CA. on June 22 and a short performance at Smithwick Theater with a tech/dress rehearsal.  For those who just want to learn to dance or improve their dancing, take the course pass/no pass and skip the parts you don't want to do-like performing or written exam.  We had our first session last Tuesday, and in 30 years of teaching this course I have never had more (as in a lot more) leaders than followers!  Not sure why, but could use more students, especially women!  You need to register with nearby Foothill College ASAP, and then wait to get your student ID to add the course-then you will need an add code from me-so email me back if you are interested for this ASAP!  Please note that I rotate partners often, everyone gets to dance with my assistant teachers to get personal attention on styling and my most advanced students will work on dips, lifts and additional spins.
