My Ballroom Dance class at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills, made its numbers! We are currently at 23 with a minimum of 20 required, but no one from this group has joined yet. The cost is $31 for the 1 unit, which can be taken credit/no credit, though there are student fees-a few of which are refundable if you don't need a student ID to get into movies 1/2 price or have your own health insurance, etc. with parking fee of $3 per session. The class meets for 32 hours of instruction on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 6-9pm starting on July 3. Registration must be completed by July 6-and can take 3-5 days to get a student ID, so you can finish adding the class, so please, don't delay. Last class is Aug. 10.
This is instruction in American style ballroom dances: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, with Country Two Step, Quick Step and Viennese Waltz for those who are intermediate level. Then we have the slot dances: Swing (aka East Coast, Jitterbug, Jive), with West Coast Swing, Lindy, Hustle and Charleston for those more advanced, and Club Dances: Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa and Night Club Two Step with Bolero, Samba and Bachata for more advanced dancers. We will have 2 dance parties-both on Friday nights at Palo Alto locations. One is a ballroom dance party with 1.5 hours of Cha Cha instruction (Beginning and separate intermediate/adv. lesson) on July 27. The other is Aug. 3, a Klezmer Dance party with live band-where I will be teaching traditional easy Jewish wedding social dances from last century-including the Husedle, Sher, Sherele, Patch Tanz, etc. as we explore social dance in a different culture each term. I am planning a short dance performance at a retirement home in mid Aug. Consider it Tzadaka-or looks good on a resume to have done community service/outreach.
I allow 2 make ups in summer for missed classes due to vacations-and the make-up location will be available at Lucie Stern's in Palo Alto on Wed. nights, at The Pavilion on Sat. nights and at my Mountain View YMCA Ballroom coaching class on Sundays from 3-5pm. If none of these work into your schedule just let me know, as I have some other possibilities-a bit further away.
Be prepared to dance on July 3, casual summer clothing is ideal-really, wear whatever you want-except for shoes-no bare feet, flip flops or sandals. A shoe that lets you slide is best. If you know anyone who would like to take this class, they need to register on line with Foothill College-allow an hour for all the on-line forms before July 1 or send them to me for an add code. Add codes only work from Sunday, July 1 through Friday's class July 6-and it adds another layer to the registration process-which I don't recommend.
