Seemslogical if there would be a slide bar adjustment setting for the skybox scaling. I spend more time on my sky background than anything else with enscape unfortunately. It's the only laking item that bugs me and make renderings look less than presentable.

DPHORVATH , thanks a lot for your suggestion - please be aware that generally only some height/stretching features could be added to adjust the skybox, since overall the sky/hdri file is fixed in its overall perspective and proportions of buildings for example. Feel free to share an example here of course when it comes to the skybox not fitting the scene well and I can then tell if this is something that would even be resolvable with a stretching/height feature.

Demian Gutberlet is there a specific fraction of the full equirectangular height that the Enscape background fits to? It's not the Enscape provided ones that are an issue but user created ones, manually added to the Enscape "Horizons" folder. (I'm assuming I'm thinking of the same thing DPHORVATH is talking about.)

^^^ The "fraction" will depend on your FOV. A skybox background has to cover 360 horizontally and 180 vertically - it is essentially just mapping the inside of a sphere that encompasses the whole scene. A typical rendering might be 60-75 - so if for example you just wanted to use a standard photo as a background, it would have to repeat/tile 5-6 times.

You can't "scale" the background in two directions without introducing tiling/repeating. And if you scale it one direction the proportions will be messed up, and you would have to fill in color, or -something- where the image is "missing" after it gets scaled. I'd think Enscape could add a scaling feature, but it would have to be used with the understanding that you will see seams if your camera spins the full 360, or if it tilts too far up or down.

I'm talking specifically about Enscape "horizon" image files that allow for the Enscape sky to show above the horizon through the .png transparency. Currently those images are 700 pixels tall. Maybe they are cropped directly from a 4k equirectangular hdri? My issue is when I try to replicate them (by layering a panoramic photo over the original), the proportion doesn't seem to be correct.

The HDRI skies that i like to use are from HDRI Haven. They have great lighting characteristics. However it is very tough to find one that has the lighting you want and the same scale of the scenery to the building model. For example the trees of the HRDI image could appear 200 ft tall when i have a 5 story building in the scene and the maple trees are towering over my 5 story building, that is what i mean by out of scale / proportion. If there was an enscape adjustment to scale the hdri to the model that would be amazing.

If perhaps the HDRI types that i am using are not appropriate for use with Enscape, then let me know (maybe that is my problem). Perhaps someone can suggest another source for HDRI skies for use with Enscape.

"Por exemplo, como as rvores da imagem hrdi poderiam aparecem com 200 ps de altura quando eu tenho um prdio de 5 andares na cena e as rvores de ser bordo se e sobre o meu edifcio de 5 andares, que o que eu quero dizer com para a de escala / proporo. Se houve um ajuste enscape para dimensionar o hdri para o modelo que seria incrvel.

this is another great suggestion  pls add setting for skybox adjustment like height etc. i'm a long user of 3ds max so when i use hdri in enscape i really scratch my head to find the right hdri for my scene. with rotation option as the only setting for skybox, makes a lot of hdri file became useless. the only solution is using photoshop to edit the hdri files so i can use it on my scene.

I am having the same problem. I am using HDRI images from "HDRI haven" but whenever i put them in the enscape skybox, their scale is just too big. I assumed that maybe its because i am working with millimeters, so i changed everything to meters but i still have the same problem. I also tried different HDRIs but same results.

You can use Photoshop or other software for image processing to edit your skybox image or compose a photo into a skybox. You can use this as a reference. Use the reference as a skybox in Enscape and strech your background photo according to the grid. Use the reference as a skybox in Enscape and adjust your background photo according to the grid.

HDRI-Hubs main goal is to provide you with super high resolution hdri images and architectural textures.

Often textures you find in the internet are way too small for really close up work, so we like to produce them in this outstanding quality.

Most of our textures are at least 4096x4096px large or even bigger and the hdri environments are around 10240x5120px. On custom request many of the skies can be reproduced at even larger resolution.

hi all. I'm getting exposure problem in my interior scene when im using skybox hdri as my environment lighting. my interior scene becomes dark and showing unpleasant color rendering. the shadows becomes more dark. in my glass window the outside environment is dark. please help how to resolve these issues.

Also, have you generally played around with the "Exposure" slider in the Rendering tab of our Visual Settings, plus with the "Brightness" slider in the Atmosphere tab? If that doesn't help, then a screenshot would be good - you can also gladly attach the .HDRI file as well if possible.

yup i resolved already. and i have one other problem when using ies light. im struggling to make it appear if i loaded the ies file. does i really need to change my ambience setting to night to be able to see the the effect of ies lighting? please help.

So now that Enscape is starting to integrate some real-time raytracing aspects with exterior lighting. When can we see fully HDRI support or what development hurdles are there that are slowing the functionality?

Would love to plug in a cloudy sky HDRI and get proper shadows.

It's actually a great question and without going into much detail HDRI maps have a lot of color data that can translate into lighting information when used in Render Engines. Enscape is currently just simulating/faking the light but the DDS is doing the bulk of the work by aligning the sun to the brightest pixel in the map. Then it appears to average the color of the maps and tints the image. In all cases, the light isn't accurate and makes it unappealing to use HDRIs in the first place. Currently, the Skybox is really nothing more than just a background. The dev team may/hopefully can speak more to the technical aspects but my hope is they will have full HDRI support soon.

This image here is a comparison I made using VRay and Enscape. This comparison isn't which engine is better but illustrates what a render looks like when an HDRI is utilizing properly.

In this study, I try to best match everything from the object camera location settings etc.

The most noticeable difference is there is no quality GI bounce on the objects coming from the HDRI. Also in the #4 HDRI, the lighting is completely wrong. The cause is from a street lamp (behind the camera) is considered to be the brightest pixel therefore the sun is aligned to that location.

The next noticeable difference is in the shadows in all cases minus #4 the shadows are very sharp. This can be slightly adjusted with the shadow setting in enscape however its the spread is very limited.

I think the first step could be to incorporate the raytracing element in 3.2 into the Skybox maps. I've tested this and it's not present at the moment. Again my hope this is something Enscape is working towards as it is a major game-changer in how renders can be done. Time will tell but if there isn't a vote for this hopefully this post can be the first to drive the interest.

The darkness of the shadows in the Enscape renders is the biggest issue for me. Having true HRDI lighting would help my exterior renders so much. (And it's why I sometimes have to go back to V-Ray to render exterior renderings because the GI is just so much better.)

I suspect that this won't be possible in real time for a while yet (although things are getting better all the time!), a skybox is so large you would need to be casting an insane amount of rays out to create contact shadows purely from an HDRI skybox.

I was under the impression that most rendering packages separate out diffuse and direct light into atmosphere/skybox and a point light for the sun for this reason, even offline renders like V-ray by default (although they may let you change the sample count if you want to wait even longer for a ground truth render)

I've just popped this scene together here, with a 32bit HDRI split 50/50 into 100% red and 100% green. You can see that the sphere is being illuminated by a differing colour on each side of it , which illustrates so there is true directional Diffuse light being provided by the HDRI.
