Hi Folks,

I succeeded in making contact with the Food manager at South Pasadena
USD. We will have a formal conversation next week. In order to
maximize the time I have with her, I'm going to put together a list of
questions beforehand. Please send me any questions you'd like to have
answered before Tuesday.

Also, I saw in the Food section of the LA Times today that according
to LAUSD, the cost of food in each meal is $0.77. That does not
include the overhead involved in delivering it to cafeteria, serving,
etc. We can use that figure as ballpark when we are evaluating
alternatives.

Best,

Michelle

Great work, Michelle. I have a call into the district regarding the
hiring of the next food service director at GUSD, but have not heard
back yet. Also, FYI, as far as overall cost of lunches, when the
Berkeley schools did their big overhaul of the lunch program their
lunch prices went up to $3 each for anyone not on reduced or free
lunches. This did NOT change the criteria for those on the free/
reduced lunch program, obviously a great benefit to the overall change
to healthier food. Hopefully we would be able to maintain that
standard even if the lunch price did go up.

Thanks,
Janice

Thanks so much - I have a few friends whose kids go to Los Feliz Arts
Charter - I will get the parents' perspective and get in contact with
their food services personnel - $4 a lunch is the most expensive I
have come across, even more than the Bay Area schools I have
researched...
