Amazon Silk is a web browser available for customers to use on Fire Tablets, Fire TVs, and Echo Show devices. Silk is built on the Chromium Project, and is consistently updated to create a faster, secure and more responsive web browsing experience.

Amazon Silk works like any other web browser and allows you to easily add bookmarks, search the web, watch videos, browse your favorite websites and much more. Silk is the preferred web browser for Amazon devices such as the Fire Tablet, Fire TV and Echo Show.

Sincere thanks for your considered response. As much as I like nerd value and practically of browser access, I did successfully install the Google Play Store, allowing installation of all of the same apps I use in Android. So this problem is solved.

Ive bought a few Fire 7HD tablets to serve as touch pads around my house understanding that I could side-load the playstore onto the device and install Smartthings App from there. HOWEVER, when you open the app and put in user details it tries to open the account linking in Silk. This forces the samsung page to come up with the error page telling you to install chrome/samsung internet and set it as the default browser.

Please take a moment to check out ActionTiles ($23.99 after 14 day free trial) as it is very popular alternative web browser based dashboard (custom dashboard Panel builder with secure sharing) for SmartThings that runs great on Amazon. Fire.

Im running the fire 7 tablets with play store sideloaded with the ST app. Ive also got mine permanently on power and have no issues once the lock screen is disabled on power. I also get the notifications in the top bar, but it doesnt force the screen to go to lock.

Since getting my kindle fire I have viewed web pages regularly. I have never had any problems until now. My kindle fire allows me to pull the web page up and read the text but if there is a pictures the box stays white and the picture wont pull up. Its really aggrivating could someone please help???

I have the exact same problem with a very sudden onset! Although it's 2020 now, I have the fire hd 8. The show image option seems non existant..i can't locate it ANYWHERE! I did the factory reset and apparently, enough my kindle has a regular backup schedule and showed a recent backup...nothing was actually backed up. So...I lost a lot of content AND it did not bring back my ability to load images. The odd thing is,this is a problem usually occurring on shopping sites like hsn,acc etc the scrolling ads show up but merchandise images do not. I get a white square and place holder right after the images flash on the screen. I attempted to use a different browser, got firefox, it works but so slowly you'd think I'm on a landline dial up! I have the highest upload speeds available in my area and we use xbox with no speed issues, watch movies with no issues but loading images on the kindle?...nope! Can anyone help please?? Thanks!

terri, check the settings on your browser. Open up the browser, hit the menu button at the bottom of the screen, hit the Settings button, and try to enable your plug-ins and see if you are in mobile or desktop view. See if that makes a difference.

Thank you.
This did work on my test, now I have to try it when I need a translation on the Kindle again.
Is there any other browser that works on the Kindle that does have a translate function? I have been trying to download Maxthon but it always tells me that my device is not supported. I know I have downloaded Dolphin on another Kindle, but forgot how I did it. Any help there?
Thanks, Bette

The first time you launch the browser, a default list of website bookmarks is displayed, with Amazon at the top. Wikipedia, Google, and the New York Times are also on the list. Tap one of the bookmarks to open the bookmarked page in the browser.

Your Kindle Paperwhite web browser displays the web address, or URL, in its address bar for the last web page that you accessed. To change that URL or enter a new one, tap the address bar and use the onscreen keyboard to enter your desired URL. Tap the arrow to the right to navigate to the site.

Kindle Fire is first and foremost a device designed for purchasing content from Amazon. Given that it is not a multi-purpose business tool in the iPad mold, there is not much of a business case to support its use at work. The Android platform and Silk browser security issues noted above should serve as the basis for a strong anti-Fire argument with your organization's technology decision-makers. As of today, the only way to confidently mitigate the security risks posed by the Kindle Fire is to keep them off the corporate network altogether.

For starters, you need to install the entire Google Play Store suite of services onto your device, which amounts to four different applications: three utilities and the Play Store itself. Ensure you download all four APKs, then install them in the order listed below. All these files are downloadable using the Amazon Silk browser on your device. The APK files you need depend on your Fire HD tablet and the Fire OS version.

With the new setting, kids can explore on their own, but their internet access is still filtered with built-in controls that block mature content and social media sites. The feature is optional and only works in the Amazon Kids browser; parents can still choose to limit browsing only to permitted sites, view browsing history, and turn off the browser altogether.

With the new browser setting in the Amazon Parent Dashboard, Amazon is giving kids access to potentially the entire internet. Amazon envisions kids using the feature to do things like self-directed research for a school project. The company is betting the setting will be particularly useful while many children are still learning virtually and need access to more of the web for school content.

Amazon Kids also includes an optional browser for kids that features tens of thousands of kid-safe websites and videos. To get more kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, Audible books, and games, parents can subscribe to Amazon Kids+, previously known as FreeTime Unlimited. It costs $2.99 per month for Prime members and $4.99 per month for everyone else. The service works on compatible Fire tablet, Echo, Fire TV, Android, iOS, and Kindle devices.

However, the Kindle and the Kindle Fire are not supported devices, so EBSCO ebook Collection and ProQuest Ebook Central titles are not downloadable to the Kindle; the Kindle Fire HD allows EBSCO ebooks to be downloaded and read and ebrary titles can be read in the Silk browser.

If you are not transferring ebook files to your Fire but are reading them through the web interface instead, you won't have a problem with Springer or ACLS titles. EBSCO's eBook collection titles can be downloaded on the Kindle Fire HD and ebrary titles can be read using the Silk browser. Springer titles can be read without downloading them, but they don't open up immediately. To access them:

Amazon Silk is the name of the new web browser, run on Amazon Web Services (AWS), for the Kindle Fire. The Internet is accessed using the Wi-Fi connection you set up earlier in this book. You can connect to any Wi-Fi hotspot in the same way.
