You might want to listen tomorrow - and call in to ask "Where's the Water?"

Tomorrow on KNPR's State of Nevada, 9-11 AM, one of the topics will be: Are Las Vegans Optimistic About Their Future?

This seems a great opportunity for people to express their views on the importation of water from rural Nevada to Las Vegas at the cost of $15 billion dollars or more, the livelihoods of rural citizens, and the environment. Conservation, rate structure, and new technologies could supply the water that MAY be needed in the future.

SNWA does not need the water now, but is willing to tie up the future of rural counties on the gamble that they might need it in the future. SNWA is willing to committ to a cost several times the budget of the State of Nevada to import this one-shot water, and then will need to find other alternatives.

"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy--sun, wind and tide. I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."
— Thomas Alva Edison
