GE GFC325V .33 Horsepower Continuous Feed Disposal Food Waste Disposer with Power Cord attached: Customer Reviews
I just finished rebuilding and reinstalling a 5 year old GE GFC325 in the condo I've leased; it hasn't worked since I moved in a month ago. I fully admit I have no idea how the previous owner(s) treated it or what they put down the drain.
Bottom line: My GE GF325 model disposer gurgles with new life and works again. But like Dr. Frankenstein's creation, it has a few difficulties. (My apologies to Ms. Shelley for comparing my garbage disposer to her literary masterpiece)
Sometime in the last 3 days, the disposer side of the sink stopped reliably passing water, let alone actually working. So, having today off, I'm sitting at my home computer working on mandatory corporate development forms with my goals etc., when I hear extra gurgling coming from the dishwasher and it stinks.... Then I hear a vigorous dripping like someone was pouring a soda into the sink. Too bad it was dishwasher water pouring out on the floor. Turns out as a result of the disposall unit draining so slowly the dishwasher was siphoning the dirty outgoing water back into the machine until it overflowed everywhere. Yipee, it's wet AND it stinks! Be right back, I need to open my beverage of choice....
Cleaning up the mess I decided to take the darn thing apart and looked up the manual on the net.
After unplugging it and freeing it from under the sink, I took the screws out to release the assembly that forms the upper part of the grinding chamber. Yes, per the product description it has "stainless-steel dual-swivel grinder blades." Unfortunately what it doesn't have is a stainless or particularly corrosion resistant plate at the bottom to which those stainless hammers are attached. 5 years on, the bottom plate was fused to the sidewalls with a combination of gook and what I think is rust scale. I dug most of that out using a narrow utility knife to get the plate to spin. But, even after vigorous attempts at cleaning the scale off the plate, I couldn't get the hammers to move except a tiny bit with hard finger pressure - they aren't going to swivel again until melted down and reborn in a new disposer unit. I do have to say that the previous occupants left a partial bottle of Draino's "Prevention" product under the sink which contains the strong base sodium hydroxide and may have accelerated the bottom plate's deterioration.
On the positive side, disassembling the unit from the bottom of the sink, dishwasher hose, and drain line was easy. I did need a hammer to persuade the mounting ring to release, but smacking it with my hammer was fun given it held the potential for me having to replace the whole bloody thing on my own dime if I broke something.
After painlessly putting it all back together (including a few whacks with my hammer to the mounting ring again) and checking for leaks, I fired it up, checked for drainage, and put chunks of a dried out lime down the drain. Granted the dried out skin was like hard shoe leather, but after about a full minute of operation major chunks survived. At least it drains now and should handle soft stuff fine. My dishwasher is now on "sanitemp" rewashing the dishes. I need to go start the clothes washer to deal with wet, yucky towels.
I should have taken pictures to go with this novella.
It is a very compact installation in that it has a narrow diameter. However, it's no shorter than any other units I've had in the past. I suspect the manufacturer is relying on higher RPM to offset any loss in torque from this relatively low HP, high RPM unit for both practical and advertising purposes. This reminds me of Dr. Frankenstein's problem with putting the right brain in his assembly. Unfortunately it does NOT have a place on the bottom of the unit to insert a large Allen wrench to try to free it up if it jams like some other makes have.
Like a lot of things in life, you get what you pay for. If you want a capable disposer to work for 20 plus years, this probably isn't the unit for you. If, for what ever reason, you don't want to spend much or aren't worried about either lifespan or high performance, then this unit might be a good choice.
Good luck.

GE GFC325V .33 Horsepower Continuous Feed Disposal Food Waste Disposer with Power Cord attached: Summary
GE continuous feed food waste disposer has a high RPM and high torque, to grind food finer and faster. Which is really a big deal. Since select GE Disposal disposers can reach speeds of over 3500 RPM, while many brands can't reach over 2000 RPM, the Disposall disposers are less likely to jam. And, stainless-steel dual-swivel grinder blades means they're less likely to corrode, even after years of use. The Disposall offers a faster and finer grind right from the beginning. Now you can be free from the anti-jam key and able to power through food the first time, so you don't waste time. Installation made E-Z. E-Z Mount System makes installation a breeze for anyone. We have fewer parts and steps than most of our competitors' installation systems. The five-step installation starts by attaching a sink flange assembly. Then, the disposer snaps onto the sink flange under your sink, allowing water and waste to safely travel down the pipes. And, the Disposall easily attaches to your existing plumbing and wiring. After a quick installation, you can trust that your Disposall was made with stainless steel and corrosion-resistant materials for maximum lifespan and durability. Drain boost technology helps keep your drain free and clear of food waste to ensure your water runs smoothly in the right direction. The Disposall has an angled fin which pumps water and ground food through pipes with higher speed and pressure to keep drains purged and help reduce clogs. All our models operate quietly and some even offer sound reduction technology. The sound reduction package includes a fully insulated sound shell, so our disposers can handle your toughest challenges while minimizing noise. Did you know that Americans throw away nearly 25 percent of all food prepared? And decomposing waste in landfills is one of the largest producers of methane gas, which is the main contributor of global warming? It's true.
